Sure sounds like a hit, though scant details right now.

Curious what he was doing outside the hotel at 7am - getting into a car for the airport? If so, that seems timed.

Nope, I guessed wrong. He was not on the way to the airport. The conference was scheduled to start at 8am TODAY. Sure looks like someone knew he'd be in that spot at that time.

"UnitedHealthGroup started its annual Investor Conference at 8 a.m. Wednesday, which was scheduled to run until 11 a.m. An official ended the conference early around 9:09 a.m."

UnitedHealth Group was hosting its investor day at the New York Hilton hotel in midtown.

Is he staying at that hotel? If so, why was he outside at 7am? Yes, it's perfectly acceptable to go outside, but what would the reason be if he is staying at the hotel and I'm assuming breakfast would be provided for a swanky group like that.

Or, was he staying elsewhere and was just arriving at that time?

Sorry to flood the thread with questions!

The suspect was described as a white male wearing a cream-colored jacket, black face mask, and black and white sneakers. Officials said he was carrying a gray backpack.

Witnesses told The Post the suspect had been spotted near the vicinity of the hotel, on 6th Avenue, milling around.

So the shooter was seen at the location ahead of time and the CEO showed up early at 6:45am for an 8am meeting. Seems like the shooter knew the victim would be arriving.

(And I'm feeling some thanks it didn't happen later, when more people would've been on the sidewalks on the way to work and potentially in harm's way.)

I suspect the shooter was a relative of a patient who died who blames United Healthcare for denying a service.

Although there is no evidence of that at this time, this is a not uncommon occurrence. Hospital and doctor's office shootings are well documented with similar motives.

In my pre-corporate-mental-break life I regularly traveled for business. I’d find myself outside of that specific hotel at 7am (or earlier) regularly for:

- to go for a walk and call my family before they got their day started (school, work)
- to grab coffee or breakfast because that specific Hilton’s dining area (most of which is where the glass windows are) was often too busy with other business travelers
- because we were meeting in the Chrysler building and I had to make the walk a few blocks over

Our meetings typically started at 7:30 or 8am. Any travel time was treated preciously.

I’ve seen people question the choice of Hilton as there are better ‘brands’ in mid town. But that’s a very nice Hilton property, it’s well maintained and the staff goes above and beyond.

Hope they figure this out.

If this is a hit, I would expect someone closer to CEO's circle.

Good question.

The VIP meeting was scheduled at 8:00. He was apparently approaching the hotel at 7:00. Perhaps he is a jogging / running type CEO?

Though one hour to shower, dress and prepare for a VIP meeting seems crunched, perhaps jogging is habitual for him and his way to relax? Likewise, he may of been slated for a later appearance time than the possible 8:00 a.m. warm up events ala "Save the best for last"

I hear ya. I live in the city and am very familiar with the area.

The thing is, if it was someone close to his circle, the location of the attack is super weird.

He lives in Minnesota, and it’s much safer to carry out this murder there than in a city that has more surveillance cameras than most places on earth.

From what I’ve read he was walking to the hilton for 8:00 conference he was a speaker.
