Prosecutors showed video Thursday of the interrogation of Christopher Whitaker after he was arrested in connection with the murder of 14 year-old Alianna DeFreeze.

The interrogation tapes, in which Whitaker ultimately confesses to the crime, came during testimony by Cleveland Police homicide detective Kathleen Carlin. She testified that DNA testing led investigators to identify Whitaker as a person of interest.

Christopher Whitaker was found guilty on all 10 counts, including aggravated murder, kidnapping, rape, burglary and abuse of a corpse. The sentencing phase will begin next Wednesday. That's when jurors will decide whether to recommend that Whitaker gets the death penalty.

Whitaker's attorneys said that he does not contest the charges against him and has taken responsibility for his actions. They appear to be focused on sparing his life during the death penalty phase of the trial, when they will present drug use as a mitigating factor.

I am so glad he has been found guilty. I don't know what went wrong with the trial being recorded. I watched all of opening statements and day one witnesses but know one has put any of the other days on.
This was a shocking heinous attack on poor alianna. Rest easy little girl knowing justice is served. Thanks jersey for the updates. Xx

"COLUMBUS, Ohio – A newly introduced bill in the Ohio Senate seeks to make the “Alianna Alert,” which requires schools to notify families if their children are absent, stronger for families.

Senate Bill 157 would reduce the amount of time during which schools must notify families that their kids are not at school to 60 minutes. That’s down from the two hours currently required by law. The bill also would sanction school districts when the law is not followed...."
