The FBI has promised to help check unsolved slayings around the nation as the investigation into an alleged serial killer widened beyond the 11 victims found at his Cleveland home.

FBI spokesman Scott Wilson says the agency would investigate any possible out-of-state leads in the case against 50-year-old Anthony Sowell. Sowell served in the Marines 1978-1985 in North Carolina, California and Okinawa.

"Police in Coronado, Calif., near Camp Pendleton, said a woman told them that she saw Sowell's mug shot on TV and was sure he had raped her in 1979.

Officers talked with the woman but were unable to confirm her story because rape investigation records from 30 years ago have been thrown out, said Jesus Ochoa, Coronado police commander. "She seemed credible," he said."
 
Confirmed Victim 11-07-09 Michelle Mason , 45 - disappeared a year ago and was last seen just a block from Anthony Sowell's house. Mason vanished after meeting a sexual predator who had served 18 years in prison for rape and stalking, her family said. Family was looking for her around East 116th Street and Buckeye Road.

Confirmed Victim 11-09-09 Janice Webb, 48 - been missing since June, and her family fears that she came into the clutches of Anthony Sowell while walking through the neighborhood on a warm summer night.

Confirmed Victim 11-06-09 Nancy Cobbs , 43 - was last seen after she left her house to go to a store on East 116 near Continental.

Confirmed Victim 11-09-09 Kim Yvette Smith, 44 - never reported missing but last seen Jan 1, 2009. According to cleveland.com Smith had a criminal record and a history of drug abuse.

Because there's a statute of limitations on rape, they've already thrown the evidence out and there's no way to verify the authenticity of the California victim's statement, other than they believe her. Even if they knew he did it, it's too late to try him for that crime. However, it will most likely push the Calif LE to look deeper into this suspect for crimes that happened in their jurisdicition when he was there. Believe me, California has a NUMBER of serial crimes that still remain unsolved. Although I haven't found one (possible serial killer) yet that could possibly be linked to him.

We'll most likely never know the exact number of this guy's victims. After all, locals have already told Cleveland LE and the media, that this guy had been dumping duct taped bags that had a horrid odor, in surrounding businesses' dumpsters for at least the past two years. How many victims are lying in the local landfill?

One only has to look at the list of missing from that area, during the past few years, and add the number of local unsolved murders with the same MO as the victims already located, to just imagine the scope of this man's crimes.

Like I believe I've said in a previous post, this case is very disturbing. Just imagine how his neighbors feel?

I'd guess they're probably pretty sure it's her but haven't officially confirmed it yet. Or maybe the next of kin haven't been notified.

It had Gloria Walker listed, but they took the name down. Did not say anything on the news, other than that the ninth victim's name was not released yet. That was after the link listed her.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Cuyahoga County grand jury on Monday indicted Anthony Sowell on charges of kidnapping to engage in a sex act, rape, felonious assault and attempted murder. The charges come with violent offender and sexual predator specifications

The charges stem from Sept. 22 when Sowell lured a 36-year-old woman to his house on Imperial Avenue in Cleveland to drink malt liquor with him

Authorities search abandoned Cleveland school near Anthony Sowell's house

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland police and fire investigators converged on the old Lafayette Elementary School shortly after noon today. The property is about two blocks away from Anthony Sowell's house on Imperial Avenue.


Officers led at least two dogs into the property with the assistance of the Ohio Search Dog Association.

The school closed in 1995 and the fenced-in property is overgrown with weeds. The building is boarded up but the front door was partially open when officers arrived today. They spent about 15 minutes on the property before heading to Sowell's house.

He got away with it for so long by living and hunting in society's margins, by lying and manipulating with pathological precision, and by hiding an intense hatred for women behind a "mask of sanity."

That is the opinion of five crime experts, who said the mounting evidence in Cleveland's serial-killer case suggests a stereotypical sexual sadist.

And, they said, if suspect Anthony Sowell is found guilty of killing the 11 women whose bodies were found in and around his home, law enforcement officials elsewhere should open their cold-case files as far back as Sowell's days in the Marine Corps in the 1970s and '80s
