Columbus police have confirmed that they found the body of a missing toddler at 11:15 this morning, near Big Walnut Creek on the East Side.

Police had been out since 8 a.m., searching for 14-month-old Cameron S. Beckford, who had been presumed dead.

The search was concentrated in the area of Arbor Drive and Groves Road, on the western side of the creek. Then officers on horseback spotted a bookbag-type bag partially submerged in the water close to the eastern bank, in a "very remote" area, Sgt. Rich Weiner said... Interviews with Stevens and Flood helped lead police to where the child was found, Weiner said.

So senseless, play with the Angels dear sweet Cameron.

Toddler's body found, confirmed to be Cameron Beckford

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus Police have found the body of a toddler, and confirmed it's that of a missing 14-month-old boy.

(snip)

"With everything that we know, everything points to the fact that this is probably the young man that we're looking for", Sergeant Weiner says. Police confirmed the findings Friday afternoon.

Investigators say the story the boy's mother told them fell apart. 24-year-old Dainesha Stevens of Maryland originally told officers she left Beckford on a stranger's porch Friday evening, in the Brice Road-E. Livingston Ave. area.

Stevens remains in jail, and the court set her bond Friday morning at $150,000 on charges of Child Endangerment and Tampering With Evidence. Additional charges are possible, since the body found is confirmed to be Beckford.

The child's father called police last week, concerned about the boy's safety, after Stevens indicated she could no longer care for the child. There was also a 6-year-old girl with Stevens. Sgt. Weiner says the father is in town to pick up the girl.

"There's been reports that there were some pictures sent and texts back and forth indicating that the children have been physically abused by Mr. Flood," said Frederick, Maryland Police Detective Deborah Kidwell in a call to Columbus Police.

The “Mr. Flood” she referred to is 24-year-old Kurt Flood. Stevens and her two children stayed with Flood at his Kornwal Drive home while in Columbus. He is currently in custody on probation violations related to a weapons charge, but has not been charged in relation to Cameron's disappearance or death.
