Deceased/Not Found OH - Carrie Culberson, 22, Blanchester, 28 Aug 1996 - #2 *V. Doan guilty*

This case has been full of weird events. The barn that was searched in 2004, sometime after the search the rumor started going around that the wrong barn was searched. The family that owned that barn, also owned a barn in Clermont Co. 2 days before the 10 th anniversary of her disappearance (death) the second barn burned. FD says the fire is suspicious. LE says they needed to check that barn for evidence (no mention of whether or not they had made any efforts to do so).

Fourboys, I know this is totally off topic, but when is angelsmissing coming back on line, if ever?? It was full of up to date info, and it think it is an important web site, do you know??

Thanks

Interesting tidbits on the case.

An environmental agency from the UK will be studying the soil and water samples taken from the barn to see if any DNA can be recovered.
They mention the items found in the search.

Messer the owner of the barn where the search for Carrie Culberson took place has now been arrested for drugs, and is being investigated for possible participation in an interstate theft ring involving motor vehicles and farm equipment.

(I found that interesting since Carrie's car has never been located)

Debbie Culberson (Carrie's mother) working for changes in how unidentified remains are handled. She is working to make sure that DNA is recovered from the remains. In the Post article it is mentioned that even after his conviction, Doan has continued to plead the Fifth Amendment when asked about the location of Carrie's body.

Mom takes mission to D.C.

Because the federal government doesn't mandate DNA testing of unidentified remains, "a lot of times they are sitting on a shelf in a law-enforcement office or a coroner's office, and they don't know what to do with them," Culberson said. "It's my hope they will eventually mandate testing, which will prevent the cremation of them. Because once they are cremated, you'll never get identification."

CULBERSON PROBE CROSSES THE ATLANTIC

Advanced DNA technology in the United Kingdom will be applied on southwest Ohio soil and groundwater taken during a 2004 barn excavation conducted by law enforcement looking for the remains of Carrie Culberson. (snip)

Dunn believes Culberson was in fact at the area of the barn on the night she was murdered - explaining the reactions of the cadaver dogs plus the presence of trash bags and duct tape. But because none of her remains were uncovered in the excavation, Dunn believes Culberson's body was then taken elsewhere, according to the WKRC-TV online report.

On local 12 tonight the question was asked about how far would Debi Culberson and the investigators be willing to go to find Carrie Culberson's body? Indications are they might be willing to renegotiate Doan's prison sentence, in return for him giving up the location of the body. Doan is currently serving a life sentence.

I can kind of understand where the mother is coming from. She wants to be able to bury her daughter. I don't think she wants to see him out of prison, but she wants to bury her dau. He has been in prison for 10 years and hasn't given a location yet. So given that she only has two choices, she seems to have chosen the one she sees as a priority.

As much as I would love to see this family find their daughter's remains, I think it would be a huge mistake to allow him to get out of jail if he spills his guts. I think it would set an awful precedent and would allow murders way too much power. They would be able to hold this information over the heads of the victim's families, and negotiate easier prison terms for themselves. Ten years is not enough for this killer. Talk about getting away with murder.

I've never been in her position. But if it was my dau. I don't know but what that might be my position too. She isn't concerned about precidents, she just wants her dau. properly buried.

Some background for those who don't know the case. This happened in a small town. One grocery, one movie theatre, one everything. Most folks know each other there. The brother of the killer was convicted of helping to hide the body. He served 10 years and is out of prison now. The father was accused of being involved in hiding the body but wasn't convicted. So the mother sees them as well as the rest of their family, around town. And there is nothing she can do. So I am sure it wasn't an easy thing for her to say that she would agree to it.

I have followed this case from day one...and I have the upmost respect for Debi Culberson. Whatever her choice, I support her fully. I would be afraid the SOB would kill again the next time he gets mad at his girlfriend...

I totally agree with you. I know that it has to be awfully tough, but Carrie is in Heaven. That's the most comfortable resting place that she can have. :) I do not think that Vince Doan, a along with his family members, should ever be allowed to walk free. He could take it to his grave as far as I'm concerned.

After all of his appeals are exhausted, he may eventually reveal it to someone in prison, who can then give it up for some type of reward. I would not reward this with anyone, especially a "Get out of jail free card."

ETA: I watched the video at the link. Glad to see that Tracey, Vince's brother was back in jail on a domestic violence charge. I hope that he was found guilty of that. He comes from an entire family of white trash and wife beaters.

Thank you Nan. I know my position will be unpopular, but this is a huge issue with enormous ramifications. Negotiating with terrorists is a very bad idea. Someone has to look at the bigger picture, here.

I understand the family wanting to know where their daughters remains are, but I think after they were recovered it may be just as upsetting having to know her murderer was free to live like the rest of us. Hopefully they dont give in to any of that punks demands, but they have to do what makes them feel better.

Bump

Carrie has been missing almost 14 years now. Come home soon.

bump for Carrie Culberson. Local 12 is promoting that there is new info on the case, hinting at a possibility that the killer may go free. But they won't be discussing it until 6 pm.
