Columbus police are investigating after a body was found in a trash bin on the city’s Northeast Side.

Officers received a report of an unresponsive male in a trash bin behind a home on the 900 block of East 19th Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. Monday.

A woman called 911 and said her grandson found the man while he was taking out the trash.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead a few minutes after they arrived, a news release said Tuesday.

Investigators have not determined the man’s cause of death, but consider his death suspicious and are waiting for the Franklin County Coroner’s Office to make a ruling, the news release said.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Police said they're investigating the "suspicious death" of a man found dead in the back of a house in the Linden area.

Officers were dispatched at 6:04 p.m. to a home in the 900 block of East 19th Avenue Monday.

Upon arrival, first responders found a man unresponsive and pronounced him dead on the scene.

Detectives said the man died from a gunshot wound, according to the coroner's office.

Police later identified the man as 34-year-old John Mabrey.
