Resolved OH - Mary Jane Croft VanGilder, 43, Plymouth, 1945

I don’t know what to suspect in Mary’s case. Foul play?

Police reopen case into woman missing from Shelby since 1945

A woman who disappeared from the Shelby area in 1945 is now the center of a recently opened police investigation.

She was born as Mary Jane Croft on Nov. 19, 1911, in Fairmont, W.Va., then became Mary Jane Vangilder on Jan. 29, 1929, when she married her husband, James. The couple had five children, but it appears James' abusive behavior forced her to move to Ohio sometime in 1943.

I know less the u probably do. It’s just Mary’s case has been entered into all of the databases for MP and if DNA is submitted then maybe she can be located.

My grandmother has been missing since 1945. Her name is mary jane croft vangilder. We have been searching for years, my aunts way before i was thought about. We already have her added to namus, and a official investigation has been reopened.

If she worked for the military, shouldn't there be records of her employment and when / how it ended?

From that article this information about the divorce is different
He discovered that Mary Jane filed for divorce Feb. 12, 1945, in Huron County. It appears she quit her job about a month later. Her divorce was granted in November of that year.

I’m leaning towards a voluntary missing, perhaps for her own safety.

It says James was abusive. Looking at his expression in the photo he looks like he was on drugs? Or possibly an alcoholic? Do you know anything about your grandfather Mindy?
