OH OH - Phyllis Brewer. 19, Lowellville, 13 July 1981

Have you ever called the Mahoning County Sheriff to report this situation? It worth a shot because it looks like Ms Brewer and also age group and hair color are matched too.
I didn’t. I’m in New Zealand so it’s just not practical for me to call. I would love for someone to phone this in though so if you’d like to, please do!

I wonder how much hair color truly rules out the UP? She is closer to the missing location.. although across the state and into Indiana. The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

So sorry for Ms. Brewer. I'd like to hope the best and say she left her old life behind and the family did not keep up.

P S Does anybody know where they got the nickname "Sparky" for Phyllis from to publish for her sister's obituary?

I found her birth record. She was born Phyllis Brewer in Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio on 28 Aug 1961. Important to note that her name is a common one and there is at least one other Phyllis Brewer born in 1961 who lived in Ohio but born a different day/month.

Was she born “Brewer” or “Slee”?

Looks like she was born Phyllis Brewer. I looked in newspaper archives but not a single article about her missing. I will never stop being shocked by that.

Her case caught my attention as I saw her picture on the National Missing Children picture featured on an ad in my postal box.

I’m glad she isn’t forgotten and others are here looking for her too.

Thank you. Good to see there are still people working on her missing case. Could this be some kind of sign they think she met with foul play and is not considered a runaway, living under another name?

With some of these recent cold cases being solved, nothing would surprise me. it's just sad she wasn't reported missing until after her sister passed away.

2/23/2021: Investigators say they have been trying to solve this case for years. Detectives with the Mahoning County Sheriff's department say they have received significant tips over the years but have not received one since 2019.

Are we sure that law enforcement didn't misplace or lose or simply to file an old missing person report for her?

I truly would not be surprised if we find out that there was a previous missing person's file on her and it wasn't until the rest of her family was deceased that they started to notice their error and look into that case again.

I just find it strange that her entire family is deceased and yet they can account for the circumstances of when and where she was last seen. Where are they getting that information from? And who exactly is sending in tips in 2019? Definitely makes me suspect that there is foul play involved in this case...

Good points.

Yes, the family might have tried to report her missing, but LE dismissed it because she was already 19. They might have kept some kind of "note"?

From Charley's
It's unclear whether Brewer was ever reported missing; the police only began investigating her case after her sister died in 2014 and the coroner's office realized one of her siblings <Phyllis> was unaccounted for.

Tips: I wonder what significance the tips had and what investigating into it revealed. Extended family, close friends? Could it be LE thinks that she is no longer alive based on the tips and that's why there are so many rule outs, searching for a matching Jane Doe? Why did the tips stopped after 2019? Interesting. If there is more info know surrounding her disappearance I would like to see an update from LE.

''Phyllis Brewer, then 19, was last seen going out for a walk from her house in Coitsville but never returned.''

"Investigative efforts indicate Brewer has/had family in the Ashtabula area," said Det. Dave Sweeney, Mahoning County Sheriff's Office. "This was documented by a family member's obituary that was published in the 1980's in the Youngstown Vindicator."

A Caucasian female, Brewer was born Aug. 28, 1961. She would be 60 years old now.

She's 5-feet-6 and has a scar on her hand, according to the Ohio Attorney General's Missing Person site.

Investigators released a photo of what she looked like when she went missing.

"We are hoping to develop investigative information from the Ashtabula area to further our efforts to resolve this cold case," Sweeney said.

According to The Charley Project, Brewer's disappearance wasn't investigated until 2014 when her sister died. That's when the county coroner realized Brewer was unaccounted for.''

But this cold case now has new movement.

For years, the story was she had vanished while she was out on a walk.

But what if that’s not what happened?

I'm originally from Ashtabula County, and just saw that she attended my high school for a couple years at least. News story says she was in Conneaut jail also in 1982 so was she missing later than reported, or was someone using her identity?
