Thanks for posting that. I heard it, too. RSD posted the full quote a couple pages back. We should bookmark it, because, with the gag order, we're back to having precious little info to work with.
Personally, I also think drugs were in the undercurrent of this whole situation. It's possible the W's and others were involved in trafficking hard drugs. CR1 was only growing MJ, or DeWine would have said something.
JMO, in the escalating custody battle
, CR1 threatened to expose the Wags drug connections/activities, thus the need to take down CR1, GR, KR and any other Rhoden family members who might talk later. DeWine didn't want to bring the drug charges into the murder prosecutions because:
- it would just complicate matters
- it might reveal unflattering things about powerful people in the area
But, yeah, another reason to sweep it under the rug. Remember, Leonard said that police had been covering up this stuff for years. Now we know he was referring to the Wags, but possibly someone else.
Remember my earlier link about one of the defense attorneys who was busted for smoking pot in 2012 and got off with some maneuvering by a crooked judge down in Portsmouth.
Judge alters routine to toss out drug case, seal record
"Portsmouth Municipal Court Judge Russell D. Kegley came in early on July 11, despite being on vacation, to handle a drug-abuse case against lawyer Richard M. Nash Jr. Moving the arraignment from its scheduled time of 9 a.m. to 8:31 a.m., Kegley dismissed the charge - without a prosecutor present - at an hour the court typically does not conduct hearings, a Dispatch investigation found. Kegley also quickly granted Nash’s motion to seal the records in the case alleging that he smoked marijuana, making the case vanish both online and from the court’s files."
Richard M Nash is George Wagner IV's defense attorney. They one who aregued for bail. JMO, you can't throw a rock in that region without hitting someone who isn't involved in the drug biz.
DeWine mentions the "undercurrent" but he also says there won't be any more arrests. JMO, they want these prosecutions to be focused on a custody battle and bury the rest. What's in the "undercurrent" will stay in the "undercurrent", at least until after 2020 or 2022. DeWine and Fran should be in the nursing home by then.
