Divers search for Hamilton man missing for more than a year

Divers were in the canal off Joe Nuxhall Boulevard Wednesday searching for the remains of a Hamilton man who has been missing for more than a year.

Butler County sheriff’s detectives and members of Task Force One, a combined law enforcement dive unit from area counties, spent several hours attempting to locate any sign of Billy DiSilvestro, who went missing on the night of Feb. 7, 2011. They found nothing.

Billy Disilvestro, 28, has been missing since Feb. 7, 2011. On that day, his grandmother dropped him off at a friend's house in Hamilton, Ohio. At about 2:30 a.m., DiSilvestro placed two calls -- one to his mother and one to his grandmother. Both calls went unanswered. What happened to DiSilvestro after that remains a mystery.

According to police, the friend said DiSilvestro left the house after attempting to contact his mother and grandmother -- presumably for a ride. It is believed he was headed to his grandmother's house about two miles away, which would take him through a forested area called Milikin Woods.

Authorities have conducted several searches of the area, but have yet to find any sign of the missing man.

DiSilvestro is described as a white male, 6-foot-2-inches tall, 180 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing jeans and a gray winter coat with fur around the hood. DiSilvestro has several tattoos, including the word SMOKE across his back, Jesus carrying a cross on his upper right arm and a large angel on his upper left arm.

Anyone with information regarding this case should contact the Butler County Sheriff's Office at 513-785-1300.

HAMILTON — Nearly two years after her son vanished, Debbie Estes still searches daily. She wears only “Billywear.” Her Jeep is plastered with missing posters and her son’s smiling face. Facebook pages, YouTube videos, benches and posters in local businesses also show William DiSilvestro, who was last seen on Feb. 8, 2011.

I was glad to see this thread at the top again. Debbie is the epitome of what a mother of a missing child does. Even when they are an adult. His facebook page stays active and so does she. Every day I hope she finds answers. Every. Single. Day.

I also hope she knows how many people are out here supporting her.

If he started out from the 200 block of Ross Avenue and went through Miliken Woods, does anyone know his possible destination, i.e., where his grandmother's house is located?

"It seems unreal that it's been three years," Estes said. "But when I'm home at night by myself in the middle of the night it seems like an eternity."

The first tip she received after her son disappeared said to always keep Billy's face in the public eye. So, every shirt she wears bears his picture.

"It's good to know when someone comes up to me and says they know my son by my spreading him all over the internet, they feel like they know Billy, that means I've done my job," Estes said.

The shirt she wore Friday had five photos of Billy, with 'Never Give Up' printed below.

What a great mother and such a strong woman. May she get answers as to what happened to her beloved son soon.

Such a sweet face. Sadly I doubt Billy is alive but I just hope he is at peace and will bring his Mom some peace of mind as well one day.

The first blog entry is on missing William "Billy" DiSilvestro, with an examiner article of the missing man (first link).

I am facebook friends with Debbie, Billy's mother. My heart breaks for her and her family, and I pray daily for answers in Billy's case. Someone knows something!

Four years and a week after William DiSilvestro vanished, Butler County Sheriff’s detectives conducted a massive search for his remains Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area near New Miami.

But after a five-hour hunt with cadaver dogs, no sign of the missing Hamilton man was found at the St. Clair Twp. location pointed out by a confidential informant, according to Butler County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mike Craft.

Hamilton’s Debbie Estes, who has been searching for her missing son William DiSilvestro for more than four years, was hopeful the skull might bring her closure. “Well, now it is back to square one,” Estes said Friday after learning the remains are that of a woman.

Last month she was also on pins and needles when Butler County Sheriff’s detectives acting on a new led began digging for what they believed may be the 28-year-old’s remains in St. Clair Twp. But after a 5-hour search, the detectives found nothing.

Estes has made it her life’s mission, when not spending time with her seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, to hang fliers, post photos and videos on social media, plaster her son’s photo on benches and search on her own for her son.

DiSilvestro disappeared on a cold winter night after spending time at a friend’s house in Rossville. He did not have a cellphone or money. There have been plenty of tips and leads in the years since his disappearance. Butler County Sheriff’s deputies have dived in the canal and dug in several locations, but have have not found “Billy D.”

"I'm stuck in 2011," Debbie Estes, Billy's mother, told Dateline. "I'm always going to be in 2011 until I have my son home"...

On Friday, Debbie got word that remains had been found on a rural property down in Kentucky. One rumor that spread after Billy disappeared was that a group of men may have driven and buried his body there.

Debbie made the call informing the investigating authorities there about her son. This isn't the first call of this sort she's made...

"I always think that this time may be the time," Debbie told Dateline. "But it never is. All I can do is keep trying and keep hoping. One day, we'll get hime home."
