Three men arrested in connection to missing men, shooting in Moore

MOORE, Okla. – Police say three men have been arrested in connection to the disappearance and shooting of two men at a Moore grocery store.

Around 6 p.m. Saturday, 21-year-old Alize Ramon “Gutta Twin” Smith and 21-year-old Jarron Keonte “400” Moreland, went to the Crest in Moore to do a Craigslist exchange, Moreland’s family members told KFOR.

While at the Crest, police say a white van pulled up to the two men and shots were fired.

Then, witnesses say Moreland and Smith were either pulled into the van, or got in willingly.

The van then sped out of the parking lot.

Officials told KFOR that a bloody gun was found in the parking lot.

Authorities said the two suspects inside the van were described as two white males.

On Wednesday, police told KFOR they arrested three people in connection to the case Tuesday night.

Those men have been identified as Kevin Don Garcia-Boettler, Johnny Shane Barker and Brett Boettler, who is 16 years old.

Boettler is the suspect shooter, officials said. He is expected to be charged as an adult with first-degree murder.

Garcia-Boettler and Barker are facing charges for accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.

The suspects allegedly said Moreland and Smith were shot and killed, then dumped in a pond near N.E. 50th and Sooner Rd.

Authorities say that two bodies have since been recovered in the pond.

Officials believe the bodies belong to the missing victims; however, the medical examiner’s office will have to confirm if it is them or not.

A "Craigslist exchange" eh? Must have been some really expensive end tables.

I wonder how the suspects were found. Maybe the license plate was seen on camera.

Four people are now facing multiple charges in connection to the murder of two men, their bodies found last week in a metro pond and court documents say the bodies were dismembered.
Moore police had traced Brett Boettler's phone to that location, after finding "communications" between Boettler and 21-year-old Alize Ramon Smith, whose body was found in a pond on the Sooner Rd. property, along with the body of 21-year-old Jarron Moreland, according to an affidavit filed in Cleveland County on April 25.

Garcia-Boettler was driving the white Chrysler minivan, with Boettler in the passenger seat and Smith seated behind Boettler, according to court documents. Moreland arrived and began to enter the back seat of the van when Garcia-Boettler told police he heard the cocking of a gun and his brother "immediately turned around and fired approximately four shots from a pistol," according to an affidavit.
"There was apparently going to be a sale of a gun, possibly off of Craigslist when the two victims entered the vehicle," said Moore Police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis on April 18. "The suspects claimed they heard a gun being racked or cocked. At that point, one of those individuals fired at the two victims that entered the van and killing them both at that time."

4 charged in deaths of 2 men found chained in Oklahoma pond

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A 16-year-old is charged along with his older brother, mother and the mother's boyfriend in the deaths of two black men whose bodies were found dismembered and chained to cinder blocks in an Oklahoma City pond after what authorities say was a gun sale arranged on Craigslist that turned deadly.

[...]

Smith and Moreland both were black, while all four suspects are white, and the killings have received attention from bloggers and activists on social media with some comparing them to lynchings. But the prosecutor handling the case said Thursday that the slayings are not believed to be racially motivated.

"We definitely explored that, and the evidence absolutely shows that this was not racially motivated," said Cleveland County prosecutor Greg Mashburn, who does not plan to seek hate-related charges in the case.

The 16-year-old, Brett Boettler, is charged with one count each of first-degree murder and second-degree murder, desecration of a corpse, unlawful removal of a body and for having a gun after he had been convicted as a juvenile. No attorney is listed for him in court paperwork. He is jailed on $5 million bond.

His brother, Kevin Garcia-Boettler, 22, faces charges of being an accessory to murder, desecration of a corpse and unlawful removal of a body. He is jailed on $3 million bond. Bill Smith, an attorney listed in court paperwork as representing Garcia-Boettler, did not return a message seeking comment.

The brothers' mother, Crystal Boettler, 40, is charged with being an accessory to murder. Her boyfriend, Johnny Barker, 43, is charged with being an accessory to murder, desecration of a corpse and unlawful removal of a body.

Authorities say the two brothers arranged a meeting over Craigslist to buy a gun from Smith and Moreland. Investigators say Garcia-Boettler told them that he and his brother picked up Smith and drove to a grocery store parking lot in Moore where Moreland approached and entered their van. Police say Garcia-Boettler told them he heard a gun *advertiser censored* and that Brett Boettler then fired.

Moreland's mother told television station KFOR she wonders whether more happened than a gun sale gone bad.

"To me, it's like y'all planned to torture them," Kennetha Moreland said of the suspects.

Prosecutors Are Not Pursuing Hate-Crime Charges in the Oklahoma Killings of Alize Ramon Smith and Jarron Moreland

"Authorities say they are not going to pursue a hate crime prosecution in the killings of Alize Ramon Smith and Jarron Moreland, according to an Associated Press report. The AP reported that the local county prosecutor does not plan to pursue hate-related charges after four white suspects were arrested in connection with the killings and subsequent dismemberment of the two black men.

“We definitely explored that, and the evidence absolutely shows that this was not racially motivated,” Cleveland County prosecutor Greg Mashburn said, according to the AP...."

First day of Moore double shooting preliminary hearing leaves questions

"The first day of a hearing involving a gun deal gone awry that resulted in the deaths of 21-year-olds Alize Ramon Smith and Jarron Keonte Moreland brought just as many questions as it did answers.

On Wednesday, Brett Aaron Boettler, 16, of Moore, his brother, 23-year-old Kevin Garcia-Boettler, of Maysville, their mother, 40-year-old Crystal Rachelle Boettler, and 44-year-old Johnny Shane Barker, both of Oklahoma City, appeared before Judge Steve Stice for the first day of their two-day hearing. The state, represented by Assistant District Attorneys Christy Miller and Travis White, called two witnesses, including Kevin....

Brett faces charges of first-and second-degree murder, unlawfully disposing of a dead body, desecration of a human corpse and possessing a firearm after delinquent adjudication.

Garcia-Boettler, Barker and Crystal, are accused of being accessories to first-degree murder. Garcia-Boettler and Barker are also charged with unlawfully disposing of a dead body. Barker faces two additional charges of desecration of a human corpse.

Although it isn't clear what exactly happened in the Crest parking lot, it is clear based on Wednesday's hearing that the defense is claiming self-defense.

The two-day preliminary hearing will continue Friday. The state is expected to call more witnesses."

Cases connected to murder case being moved to Oklahoma County

Dec 22, 2018

"Two people who were charged in April as accessories after the fact to murder in Cleveland County District Court are in the process of having their cases moved to Oklahoma County District Court.

On Friday, Crystal Rachelle Boettler, 40, and Johnny Shane Barker, 44, both of Oklahoma City, appeared before Judge Steve Stice, along with Boettler’s son, 16-year-old Brett Aaron Boettler, who faces several felonies including first-degree murder, for the conclusion of their preliminary hearing. The hearing was continued from October.

In the end, Stice found probable cause to send all three cases to trial, but Crystal and Johnny will have their cases moved to Oklahoma County, while Brett and his brother, Kevin Garcia-Boettler, 23, will have their cases tried in Cleveland County....

A 16-year-old accused of murdering two men in Moore then dismembering their bodies will now be tried as an adult. A Cleveland County judge also ruled that two of Brett Boettler's alleged accomplices will transfer to Oklahoma County for their trials.

While the judge’s decisions do mean a victory for the victims’ families, they are still preparing for very emotional months ahead and a holiday without their loved ones. More than a dozen members from Alize Smith and Jarron Moreland's families waited anxiously for the judge to move forward with the trials.

The formal arraignment dates and subsequent trial dates for the defendants have yet to be determined.
