GUILTY OK - Brandon Duran, 32, found dismembered, Elmore City, 7 Aug 2012

Beandon Duran's x-wife Amber (my stepson's ex-wife) has been arrested. There was a shopping list in her handwriting containing items used in the murder, such as cement, buckets, saw blades and... a meat grinder which was also found at the residence of Amber and Justin Hammer :( This just makes me sick!!! Why did it take SO LONG for this arrest??? So sad for little Brando and the baby that Amber had since then!

Just last month Amber Andrews, 33, was led into a Garvin County courtroom after a grand jury indictment led to three criminal charges, including murder, being filed against her in the death of her former husband, Brandon Duran...

During Andrews’ initial arraignment last month District Attorney Greg Mashburn said investigators working the case and state prosecutors have from the beginning believed Andrews was an active participant in the murder of her former husband.

Murder trial has to wait for now

Just days before jury selection was to begin a prosecutor's family emergency has dramatically changed the timetable in the second trial coming from a grisly Elmore City murder four years ago.

The change means the trial for Amber Andrews, 34, scheduled to start Sept. 19 in a Pauls Valley courtroom, will now likely come next spring.

With a lengthy delay expected before Andrews gets her day in court a Garvin County judge is allowing for a $100,000 bond in the case since the defendant has been held in county jail without bond since her arrest well over a year ago.

During a quickly scheduled hearing this week District Judge Leah Edwards made it clear that if Andrews is able to post the new bond a long list of conditions will apply with her freedom, including a house arrest with constant supervision from an ankle monitor.

A spring date it is as the jury trial has officially been set for the second defendant in a grisly Elmore City area murder more than four years ago.

A hearing in McClain County this week made it official as Amber Andrews, 35, now has an April 2017 start to her murder trial.

Andrews is accused of taking an active part in the brutal killing of her former husband, Brandon Duran.

The trial date is now set for April 17, 2017 with motions from both sides to be filed by Feb. 13.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin here April 17 in the murder trial for Amber Andrews, 35.

Andrews is accused of taking an active part in the brutal killing of her former husband, Brandon Duran.

Andrews’ indictment in 2015 by an Oklahoma City grand jury led to three formal charges being filed here in Garvin County, including first-degree murder.

Prosecutors allege Andrews conspired with Justin Hammer to kill Duran during a planned shooting confrontation on Aug. 7, 2012 at Hammer’s rural Elmore City area home.

Already convicted and facing a life term in prison, Hammer has admitted to firing the gunshots that killed Duran.

He also claimed to dismember the dead body and dispose of the parts in the bottom of a farm pond on his property.

A real life murder trial is nothing like what you might see on a television show. That was part of a prosecutor's message during Monday's jury selection in the trial for Amber Andrews.

With prospective jurors nearly filling a Garvin County District courtroom, Jennifer Austin of Norman wanted them to understand a real trial goes at a much slower, deliberate pace than the fictional kind wrapped up in less than an hour.

Austin's comments were part of the start of jury selection in the murder case for Andrews, 35.

“I ask you not to hold us to the CSI standard with all the imagery tools and super cool techniques,” she said, referring to the television show.

Instead, Austin spoke about evidence, exhibits and stipulation, which is what will be presented to jurors eventually selected. The selection process is expected to continue Tuesday.

A convicted murderer's former best friend had some struggles with his emotions during this week's trial for the second defendant in a 2012 Elmore City area shooting death.

Van Emblom at times broke into tears during his testimony in the first-degree murder trial for Amber Andrews.

With prosecutors trying to link Andrews to the planning of Duran's death, Emblom did offer his thoughts on her relationship with Hammer as the two were dating in the time leading up to the murder.

“He was wrapped around Amber's finger, and with his ex-wife he was more aggressive,” Emblom said about Hammer.

Much like his testimony during a court hearing back in 2013, Emblom described a gathering where he overheard both Hammer and Andrews make threatening statements about Duran.

According to Emblom, she was nice to her former husband when talking to him, while also full of hatred with her “demeanor and words” when she put the phone down so he couldn't hear.

“She was all lovey-dovey with him on the phone,” he said. “When she put the phone down she bad-mouthed him and said she hated him.

“She wanted her son to come out and for Brandon to bring him.”

Trial witnesses keep taking stand in Elmore City shooting case

Many of the questions from Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Austin of Norman focused on Andrews and if she appeared upset over the death of her former husband.

“A little bit, I would say yes,” Williams said, adding some of Andrews' comments went the other direction and were more on the lighter side of his death.

“She made little jokes but that's her personality. She seems detached but she's always been like that.

“The only time I saw her sad was when she was going through old photos, pictures of her child, all kinds of pictures, mostly of her child.”

As for the night of Duran's death, Williams said her friend told her she was alone.

“She said she went to drink in a field. She usually didn't drink alone, but you know,” Williams said as her comment trailed off.

She was quick to stress her memory might not be that accurate since that was a few years ago, plus she admits to being a “heavy drug user” at the time.

In the aftermath of a second murder trial for the same Garvin County case one family now has to pick up the pieces and find ways to pay for what's turned out to be a very costly journey.

Members of the Brandon Duran family are happy with last week's guilty verdict for Amber Andrews, who jurors believed plotted with Justin Hammer to kill Duran, her former husband, back in August 2012 at Hammer's rural residence near Elmore City.

Bob Thorn, the fiancée of Duran's mother, Cyndi Wear, says the long and drawn out child custody battle with Andrews, along with various hearings and trials related to the criminal proceedings against Hammer and now Andrews, have skyrocketed the family's expenses up close to the $100,000 range.

“We're very relieved, of course, that Amber was convicted,” Thorn said this week from his law office in San Diego, Calif.

“It's been five long years and there's been a lot of pain and frustration that goes with that. It's been a helluva fight. I'm just trying to do what I can so we can get some closure.

“We look forward to the end of this chapter, to start fresh and re-build.”

Duran’s mother Cyndi Wear wore a cross and her son’s name on her dress as she tearfully walked to the witness stand to offer some of her thoughts on the impact Duran’s death has had on both her and her young grandson B., who is the son of Duran and Andrews.

“You and your minions have taken away every dream I had ever had,” Wear said after placing a photo of Duran next to the stand.

“All Brandon wanted was his family and you murdered him for it.

“Please look at me when I’m speaking with you,” she said to Andrews. “What does a person say to the person who murdered your son. It makes me choke to look at you.”

oh it was self defense when the concrete, saw and meat grinder were purchased the previous day. right. glad she got LWOP.

i was thinking about this case in light of the double murder recently in Moore OK. I didn't know that Amber Andrews got pregnant from either Hammer or Duran, that the tryst w Duran was filmed and evidence in court. Wonder if the DNA of that baby was ever released.
