A mother and stepfather in Oklahoma, already accused of beating and starving their children for years, have been charged with killing their 11-year-old son, who has not been seen since 2021.

Lewis and Miles were previously charged with two counts each of child abuse by injuring, torturing, or maiming and four counts of child neglect. Miles was also charged with an additional count of child sexual abuse in connection with Lewis’ 13-year-old daughter.

It began when the children’s grandmother contacted police on Jan. 27 to file a report about her grandson, Orlando, saying he had been missing for several years and was possibly dead, according to a news release from the Tulsa Police Department.

In addition to the missing boy, the grandmother informed the authorities that her granddaughter — whose name has not been publicly released — had been subjected to prolonged and severe sexual abuse at the hands of Miles.

The grandmother told investigators that her daughter had left the 13-year-old girl with her in September 2022. The grandmother described the girl as “skin and bones” from malnutrition, officials said.

In an interview with investigators, the 13-year-old girl said that her mother and stepfather regularly abused her and Orlando, beating them and locking them in separate closets for days at a time, police said. The girl said they were not fed and were often struck with belts and cords.

“The girl said at times she had to urinate/defecate in a bag/cup in the closet,” police said. “She said sometimes she and her brother would be forced to sleep in an igloo-style doghouse in the backyard and exercise outdoors in very cold weather.”

The girl told investigators that her stepfather would offer her food for sexual favors, police said.

In March of 2021, she said she heard her mother crying and begging her brother to wake up. She said that Lewis told her that her brother had a seizure and died.

Initially, she said she thought her brother was buried in a park, but said she was told that Miles dug up the body and burned it in a barrel.

On Feb. 7, investigators arrested Lewis.

Detectives say she admitted to abusing the children and causing scars all over the girl’s body. However, she said that her son was not dead. Instead, she said he ran away two years ago and has not been seen since.

The next day, Miles was taken into custody.

The girl also revealed to detectives that Miles and a cousin buried the boy’s body in a park. The girl also said that Miles later went back to the park, dug up the body, brought it back to the house, and burned it in a barrel. Police said the ashes were discarded in a drainage system, according to the girl.

Tulsa police said Lewis admitted to abusing her children and causing the scars that are all over her daughter’s body.

However, police said Lewis did not admit to the death of her son. She told police the boy ran away two years ago and has not been seen since.

The day after Lewis’ arrest, on Feb. 8, Miles was also taken into police custody.

Miles has also been charged with child sexual abuse. According to jail records, he is a former convicted felon.

Tulsa police said more charges are expected, as they are investigating the boy’s disappearance as a homicide.

The boy’s remains have not been found, according to police.

RIH Orlando, I'm so sorry you lived that :(

Grandma just sat on all this information for months & even years?! What in the world is wrong with people? I'm guessing what finally made grandma come forward has less to do with care or concern for the children but more likely to be a recent disagreement or argument between grandma and one of the parents, completely unrelated to this, but made her upset enough to spill the beans about this as payback

I don't know what grandma knew when. We don't know if grandma and Lewis had a period of estrangement before Lewis showed up on her doorstep to dump the 13 year old granddaughter off. From grandmother's perspective, if she and Lewis had been estranged and suddenly Lewis shows up says here's your granddaughter, I don't want her anymore and grandma says where is little Orlando, and Lewis says he's dead and refuses to answer more questions and leaves, grandma could have thought it was simply Lewis being hateful and hurtful.

I doubt that the 13 year old divulged info about the abuse until she felt safe and comfortable enough to do so. She was probably terrified her birthing person would return and take her back to that hell. Only after gettign more info from a traumatized grandchild could grandma know what the heck has been going on in Lewis and her children's lives.

I will wait for more facts before judging what grandma knew when and whether there was a delay in her reporting info. The fact as I know it now is this, had grandma not instigated this investigation none of us would even know that a 13 year old has been abused heinously and an 11 year old boy is dead.

Granddaughter was left at her house as skin & bones, with numerous scars, & was told that grandson Orlando was dead. I wouldn't have been able to casually sit on that info from September-January. Just the state the granddaughter arrived in was reason enough to call either DCF or the police. Those poor kids :(

Lewis pleaded not guilty to two counts of child abuse by injuring, torturing or maiming and two counts of child neglect.

Miles pleaded not guilty to two counts of child abuse by injuring, torturing or maiming, two counts of child neglect, one count of child abuse by injury and one count of child sexual abuse.

Police said on Jan. 27, the girl's grandmother—Lewis' mother—called police and said the boy had been missing for "several years and [was] possibly deceased," according to Lewis' arrest report. The grandmother also told police that the girl was "skin and bones from having food withheld as punishment and confinement."

The report indicated that the girl told police her mother told her the boy had died from a seizure. The girl told police that she heard Lewis and Miles yelling for the boy to wake up, and her mother told her Miles and his cousin buried the boy in a park nearby.

The girl also said Lewis and Miles were worried the grave was too shallow, so Miles dug the boy's body up and brought him back to their house. Once at the house, the body was burned in a barrel, and the ashes were dumped into a storm drain, according to the arrest report.

It seems she made the report as soon as the mother left the 13 year-old girl in her custody. At that moment, she got to see how emaciated her granddaughter was, got to hear of the sexual and physical abuse. So, she immediately reported to police.

I thought the articles said granddaughter was left with grandma in November 2022 and Grandma made the report to police on Jan 27, 2023.... 2 months later?
