Identified! OK - Hinton, Fem UP13729, 18-30, off I-40, bellybutton ring, Apr'15 Veneranda Flores

Europeans wear their wedding bands on their right hands. At least the ones from Germany and the Netherlands do. My husband wears his on his right hand.

Was there no DNA on that belly button ring?

That facial reconstruction is going to haunt my dreams tonight. How awful.

When I took an online forensics class a couple of years ago, one of the things they talked about was the philosophy of reconstructions. One school goes for what is essentially a caricature, exaggerating the person's most noticeable features and deliberately being unrealistic. The thinking is that anybody who knew the person will recognize them, and a realistic reconstruction can be misleading. People look at it and say, "Oh, she looks like my Aunt Gertrude, but Aunt Gertrude's nose isn't long," or whatever, not realizing that the tip of the nose is nearly always an approximation.

It totally haunted my dreams. I told you guys. I woke up at 2 am with an awful dream about this girl.

Great point. I think the long chin is a distinctive feature and might trigger someone's recollection. I hope so. I'd like her to have her name back.

Rest in peace, Ms. Flores.

Her Charley page: http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/f/flores_veranda.html

Her Websleuths page: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?267665-NM-Veranda-Flores-24-Albuquerque-17-Dec-2014

Her Namus page was still up. It still says her DNA sample hasn't been submitted, but the article says it was a DNA hit.

There's also been an arrest: "After Flores was identified, agents were able to track down Flores' last steps and identified a suspect, 40-year-old Juan Gonzalez. Gonzalez was taken into custody at his Glendale, Arizona home on a complaint of unlawful disposal of a human body."

Her Namus page was still available; I copied out the case report. I'll post it separately.

Namus case file. Kind of hard to read.

Wow. That kind of came out of nowhere! So glad they've identified her AND a suspect! Beautiful girl, looks nothing like that awful reconstruction. Glad she has her face back as well.
Yes...she's beautiful!!!

That was probably the worst most horrifying recon that I've ever seen in my life...

I mean that reconstruction was of a dead old man not a young pretty woman.

it is unflattering but Veneranda did have a longer chin and broad cheeks. only thing I can think of, is it was one of the exaggerated ones.

Yeah I think you're right. It's unaesthetic but it's not inaccurate.

Harvey Pratt. Actually, he's a talented artist when he is using paint, or a pencil, or when he is doing Native American themed artwork. As a forensic sculptor though, not so much.
