It would be nice if he had some childhood photos of him.

If he truly went missing from CA, the primary candidates may be (according to NAMUS):

1. Todd Collett, a blue-eyed 3 year old who went missing in Santa Barbara Co. in 1964 (would now be 58 years old) - was thought to have been a stranger abduction. Has a twin and is one of five children, but his mother is deceased.
2. James Bordenkircher, a blue-eyed 2 year old who went missing in Placer Co. in 1965 (would now be 55 years old)

If we expanded the search to not just CA, the candidate pool could include:

1. William Jones, III, a blue-eyed, brown-haired 3 year old who went missing from Cumberland Co., NJ in 1962 (would now be 59 years old)
2. Paul Fronczak, a newborn who went missing from Cook Co., IL in 1964 (would now be 54 years old)
3. Jonathan Hagans, a blue-eyed 3 year old who went missing from Duval Co., FL in 1968 (would now be 53 years old)

A lot of young kids with blonde hair have it darken as they get older and I'm taking that into account.

Looks like he's at Sequoyah Residential Facility:
"Care Services Offered: Memory Care, Assisted Living."

His original Namus page said his fingerprints are on file, and "DNA Status: Samples submitted - Tests not complete."

Shame the name he uses is so common, and why is there no photo if he's alive?

eta: the area DA has a really neat site for unsolved cases here: Unsolved Crimes, but this guy is not listed. I used the contact form to ask if pictures could be added.

I'm sure some people might find it hard to believe that someone who was abducted as a child can have no memory of his original name or who his parents were. I'm assuming since he's at a memory care facility that his memory is substandard. But even if he didn't have any memory problems, the idea of him not being able to remember his original parents isn't that suprising to me. When I was in elementary school I read a book called "When the Soldiers were Gone" (the book is fiction but based on a true story) about a young jewish boy in I think the Netherlands who was sent by his parents to live with a Christian family during the Holocaust. The Christian family raised the boy as one of their own children. When the war was over and the boy's birth parents came back to reclaim him, the boy had no memory of them and thought they were trying to take him away from his real parents. I think he was about 4 when his parents left him and 8 when they came back. Mike Howard's story seems completely possible to me.

I'm adding a suggestion for

Missing from Issaquah, Washington on 05/03/1968
He was 8 years old when he went missing and would be 59 today.

NAMUS includes a contact in Long Beach, CA. Seems there are likely ties to California?

Seems that a DNA submission to a commercial site (23&Me, Ancestry, etc) would churn out some answers.

How long has this gentleman been at the memory care center? Where did he live prior?

Lots of questions for us, and Google isn't producing this evening....

JMHO YMMV

And, is his memory loss normal aging, a disease process, or a serious injury?

  • #9
And when this memory loss happened ?

I can't believe the press has not picked this interesting story up yet to bring us more details. Without a photo of what Mike looked like as a child it's hard to even guess at who he could be. If they don't have childhood photos they could at least give a photo of him now and maybe do an "age regressed" reconstruction sketch. MOO.

Maybe some doubt of the story?

Any idea how long this gentleman was in Sallisaw prior to May 7, 2018?

Sallisaw is on I-40, which does go to southern California. West of Oklahoma City, this is the current version of Route 66.

To the east, I-40 leads to Fort Smith, Arkansas. Not sure if Fort Chaffee is still active, but military installations bring families (and individuals) from all over.

Anyone willing to contact that case manager & ask our questions???

Does LE not have any photos of this man?

Any other news? I would love to hear any developments on this case.

This case was entered into NamUs in May 2018, and there haven't been any updates. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like whenever someone comes forward believing that they're a missing child, it takes forever for LE to rule it in or out. Aleacia Stancil had to wait three years for the DNA results to come back proving that she was the missing child. Why does DNA in some cases take forever to process, but others come back in weeks?

Also, on the NamUs page, they've ruled out two adult men who went missing in 2017. Why bother doing that if the man told you he believes he was abducted as a child?

Maybe the DNA has been received and they were auto rule-outs and someone also added them to the public list?

Or maybe police don't believe his story.

If they didn't believe him, then they shouldn't have entered him into NamUs. If he's not a particular child, then they should add that child to the ruleouts list.
