Found Safe OR - Demi Helenius, 23, Portland, 5 Aug 2017

I'm thinking she probably wasn't in the right state of mind.

I am from the other side of the country so can a local help me out with how far roseburg is from where her car was found?

Cresswell to Roseburg is 60 miles according to google maps.

About 50 miles. Less than an hour. And again I ask, why Roseburg? In another two hours she could have been in Ashland. No offense to Roseburg, but it's not exactly a destination, especially for a young woman who wants to be an actor.

What in the world?!? Why would she put her family through that? Maybe she intended on not returning? Throwing her phone out the window, leaving her belongings, and no contact. She should have at least left a note. Just doesn't add up. Glad she was found safe though..

I'm having trouble getting this link to open and it seems to be a blog. I hope this is true and we get more MSM updates soon.

ETA: Okay I got that link to open and looked at the press release which does look official but then I went to the Washington County Sherriff's office website and I don't see that press release there: http://www.co.washington.or.us/sheriff/
Am I missing it?

Press releases from official agencies in this area are released via FlashAlert. Here is the link. http://www.flashalertportland.netup
I just linked to the blog because it only shows one release at the link. I can assure you that it is real. I also received an email with the presser.

Oof!! I'm relieved to hear she's found and is safe.

Thank goodness. Glad that Demi was found, but also sad that she felt the only recourse for her was "disappearing".

Wow a lot of posts since yesterday!

JerseyGirl's post #25 from article:
A man passing through the drive-thru said he had found it and he hoped the worker would return it to its owner. Police were able to obtain the license plate number of the car that dropped off the phone, thanks to surveillance tapes provided by Dairy Queen. Detectives contacted the man and were told that he found the phone in a parking lot nearby the Dairy Queen after he saw someone throw it from a car.

Would you not find that suspicious?? Thrown from a car - I think I would have gotten the license plate on the car!! Was it a man or woman who threw it out?

Clearing the guy who left the conference early gives me some hope that she is "OK" in the sense that she may be on an adventure. I wonder if she has come to Ashland to pursue acting. According to her meet-up profile I posted earlier, acting is her thing. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival isn't the only game in town (I'm pretty sure auditions are finished). Lots of smaller theaters in the area. It's not likely, but I keep hoping. I assume her ID and other items were not found in the car so she may have them with her.

But "why" leave her car where it was found?? I think if I was going on an adventure - I'd drive my car....

I hope Demi is just sorting some things out, but her phone and car being found separately doesn't give me a good feeling.

No, not a good feeling at all!

What I'm really not understanding is why the "Good Samaritan" dropped off the phone at dq. If I found it in the parking lot laying there, then hey, ok, I could see turning it in to dq. But seeing it thrown from a vehicle and being curious enough to check it out but not think serious enough to take it to the police?

Good thought - I think if I saw it thrown from a car - I'd try and get the license plate and maybe follow it?? Wonder "why" would you throw a phone out? And definitely hand it in to the nearest police station.

So glad she's OK but..Wonder who ,"found " her. Why she left all her belongings in her unlocked car. And how she got to Roseburg ?

Isn't that where Terri Hormon used to live?

So glad to hear she was found safe - I'm going to leave all my comments I've made while reading thru this thread...

Wondering if we'll "get the rest of this story".... was she the one to throw her phone away? how did she get 60 miles from where her car was found? :dunno:

so I guess she or whoever gave her a ride threw the cell out the window?

She probably didn't want to be tracked via pings so she tossed it. I wonder who (if anyone) picked her up.

Hope she is getting any help she needs.

This is good news. This very young woman doesn't deserve our criticism. She may owe her family an explanation but she doesn't owe us. Welcome back Demi!

"She left on her own for personal reasons. When she was located, she was found to be not a danger to herself and in very good health. Though the manner in which she did it caused a lot of people (including us) much concern and we wish she would have gone about it other ways, we respect her privacy"
