Odd case coming out of Oregon. I've been watching it since yesterday hoping for more consistent details. I'll put some links below. Every report has a different take of events. Basically husband and wife meet a man to go fishing. No mention of who or how they know this man. There also may have been another man. An altercation happens. Gun may or may not have been used. Wife tossed over bridge and falls 20 feet. Takes injured wife 2 hours to crawl to road and flag down someone to call 911. Her husband and man or men have not been seen since and LE is searching. Husband's truck is still parked at fishing spot.

Comments left seem to indicate that people in general are not buying this story. One person said it's not a good time of year to fish at that location. A few say it seems staged. If there was just one guy with a gun, how did he hold the gun on the husband to throw the wife over? Can't his wife, who's in stable condition give more details? Was the husband ever there with her? Did her husband have this planned?

Gerald's wife was upgraded from serious to fair condition. She says she can't remember exactly what happened before she fell. Their son says his parents are caring and trusting and were meeting someone they recently befriended.

The search for a Corbett man who disappeared three days ago was set to end at sunset Sunday with still no sign of him.

Many questions remained unanswered Sunday in this bizarre story in which no one seems to know what exactly happened

Finally, information on the suspects. Chatter in article comments is that this was a craiglist sale gone bad.

Hazelynn Stomps, who is being treated for injuries at the hospital, was able to give investigators a description of two men. One is named "Dave" and is apparently an acquaintance of Gerald Stomps. He is a white man in his 40s, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9 with a medium build. He could be driving a gold colored newer model GMC or Chevrolet pickup with an extended cab but no canopy.
The second man, a stranger to Hazelyn Stomps, is 6 feet tall with a stocky build.

No one has come forward with info regarding "Dave" and "guy without a face". I hate thinking this way. But my gut says they don't exist.

With her help, deputies created sketches of the men, "Dave," described as a white male in his 40s, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches with a medium build, a second white male of undetermined age, 6 feet, with a stocky build. Locals have weighed in, said Deputy Paul McRedmond, a spokesman for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

The Corbett folks don't recognize Dave or the 'barefaced stranger,'" he said, referring to the second sketch, which shows only the outline of a man's head with thick hair and a mustache. No nose. No lips.
"It happened very fast," McRedmond said. "It's a puzzle. Where is Gerry?"

I'll have to see if I can find an earlier article, but LE says they don't know that the boat was for sale. And the boat is still parked at home.

According to Hazelynn Stomps, 55, she and her husband were to meet with a potential boat buyer near Oxbow Park early Friday. That was to be followed by some fishing.

Instead, she said that as they waited near the Gordon Creek bridge, two men approached them and an argument ensued. She said one of the men displayed a gun, and in the course of a struggle, she said she fell nearly 20 feet into the creek, which flows to the Sandy River.

This is what was said about the sale of the boat:

    (snip)
There is no evidence to back up reports that Stomps met the men to consummate a fishing boat sale brokered on the craigslist Web site.
“That’s something that’s been bandied about,” McRedmond said, adding that Stomps’ “boat is at his residence.”

Hikers find body on Columbia Gorge trail

Hikers in the Columbia Gorge found a man's body Wednesday morning near Wahkeena Falls.

Investigators were trying to identify the body and said it looked like the person died recently.

    No other information was available.

Last week, a Corbett man was reported missing near the Sandy River after his wife was attacked and taken to the hospital during a fishing trip, but so far there was no evidence of any to that case.

:rose: Praying that Gerald comes home safe, and soon.

Has his wife been released from the hospital yet? I'm praying for her recovery and strength as well. I can't even imagine how scary it must be for her too.

Witness in Corbett woman's murder trial commits suicide

Richard Swanson was a renter on the property of Hazelynn Stomps, 56, and her late husband Gerald Stomps.
Swanson shot himself on Wednesday, June 10, and was found at his Corbett residence by Multnomah County sheriff's deputies.
A medical examiner confirmed he killed himself.
Swanson had told detectives that he witnessed smoke coming from the Stomps property at the time Hazelynn Stomps allegedly chopped her husband up and burned his body.
