PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Authorities believe a missing 7-year-old Oregon boy is still alive, and said the search for him is progressing faster than most searches of its kind.

Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton said Friday that the investigation has been "scaled down" since it began on June 4, but 20 investigators are still working to find Kyron Horman.

A landscaper who worked for Kyron Horman's family at their rural Northwest Portland home told authorities that the missing boy's stepmom offered to pay him to kill her husband.

The landscaper told authorities that Terri Moulton Horman approached him with the murder-for-hire plot six to seven months before Kyron disappeared, The Oregonian has learned.

She reportedly offered the landscaper, who advertises his expertise in lawn care, a large sum of money to carry out the scheme, sources say.

Kyron's mom to Terri: 'Do the right thing'

Kyron Horman's mother, Desiree Young and step-father Tony Young spoke to reporters from Medford on Tuesday. They reiterated pleas for Terri Horman, Kyron's step-mother, to cooperate with investigators.

Reading from a statement, Young called on Terri to "do the right thing" and cooperate.

"You need to do what is right. Not for me, not for Tony, not for Kaine and not even for Kyron. You need to do it for ***** because she needs to see that you did the right thing to bring her brother home," Desiree said.

PORTLAND -- Investigators believe someone other than Terri Moulton Horman may know what happened to Kyron Horman, sources told KGW on Saturday.

The sources declined to characterize anyone who has that information, including when and how the details of the disappearance may have been passed along. But Terri may not be alone in knowing, the sources said.

Court documents filed Monday claim Terri Horman involved in affair
The Portland Tribune, Jul 12, 2010

On Monday, Kaine Horman, father of missing 7-year-old Kyron Horman, asked a Multnomah County judge to hold his estranged wife, Terri, in contempt of court for violating terms of a June 28 restraining order.

Attorney Laura E. Rackner, who represents Kaine Horman, filed documents in circuit court asking for a hearing on the possible contempt charges because she claimed Terri Horman showed contents of a sealed restraining order request to at least three people, including one man with whom she was having a sexual affair.

It's just getting worse for Terri Moulton Horman.

Four days ago, her estranged husband Kaine said he believed she was involved in the June 4 disappearance of his son, Kyron Horman, 7, from a school outside Portland, Ore.

Now, in court papers filed Monday, Kaine Horman alleges Terri recently went to a gym daycare center "looking to 'abduct' her daughter" with Kaine, 19-month-old Kiara, while the Kaine was working out.
