Where was Robert Earl Sanders from? Was he local to the site of the discovery?

  • #222
Awesome! nearly 47 years,( not 36 yrs), after he was reported missing. Was someone still waiting to hear the news?
His remains were found a decade after he was reported missing, hence the difference in the years.

Awh. A very long time in either case.
Too long. This is why we are excited about new DNA tech that can help get these cases closed faster, hopefully before they go cold.

Doesn't look like Robert had a missing thread here. If so, I can't find it right now.

Grateful to report that we assisted the Fayette County Coroner's office on a contemporary case from last year. We helped identified the homicide victim as 40-year-old Jimmy Lawrence and upon his identification, law enforcement found and arrested the person responsible for his death.

Re: BBM

“The breaking moment of this case was when Ortham DNA Laboratory was able to provide us with a name of a possible person who had not been listed as missing or deceased,” the coroner’s press release said.

''Othram’s sole focus is to help investigators solve cases

Othram was formed in 2018 with the sole purpose of using DNA analysis to help investigators solve otherwise unsolvable cases. Othram’s Chief Development Officer Kristen Mittelman spoke with me about the company, the technology and the impact they’re having.

Mittelman said the DNA experts at Othram realized that evidence was being used, or consumed, using DNA testing techniques that were built for medical or consumer purposes. They realized that while those techniques were able to solve some cases, they weren’t suitable to solve most cases that had DNA evidence.''

“Othram built itself as the lab that uses the most advanced genomic technologies out there for forensic purposes only. So we actually contextualize ourselves within the forensic process, from the very beginning. And all we do is human identification for victims, or for perpetrators from crime scenes, we do nothing else,” Mittelman said.

In the Castiglione case, it was only a matter of months between Othram receiving the DNA and police identifying the suspect. Othram received the evidence in May of 2022, and police did three confirmations to confirm the results.''

Excited to share that as part of a longstanding collaboration with Snohomish County Medical Examiner's and Sheriff's Office, Othram Inc assisted in the identification of 29-year-old Gary Lee Haynie. This case was funded by DNASolves.com!

RIP Gary Lee Haynie.

Spencer Island is literally next to the Everett area. He was found so near from where he went missing. How could it take so long to identify him?

Second case in one day! Not sure there is a Websleuths thread but here goes...

We helped the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office & the California DOJ in identifying 35-year-old Jeffery Todd Sydow, whose remains were found in 1998. This case is the first of many, as part of an ongoing collaboration with the California DOJ.

After 25 years, Humboldt County John Doe is Identified

Well, looks like we have one more case this week (total of 5!). See you all tomorrow.

I am gobsmacked! I hope I never lose the thrill of seeing long unidentified people being given back their names.

Have you ever looked at the case of Betty Gail Brown, who was found strangled in her car in Lexington KY (1961) on the campus of Transylvania University where she was a student?

There are conflicting reports as to the availability/quality/quantity of DNA; any comment greatly appreciated.
