Rest in peace Gwenn.

Second case today!

Honored Othram could assist the Kentucky State Police in identifying a 1999 homicide victim as Roger Dale Parham. At the time of his death, Roger was wanted by the FBI. An investigation into his death continues. This case was funded by RTI, NamUs, and the NIJ. We are truly grateful for their support.

Congratulations, @othram , got the cover story on CNN:

A man accused of rape vanished. Then, a lake yielded a grim discovery. 25 years later, a fresh mystery is revealed

“The body almost certainly had been meant to sink in Lake Barkley.

Whoever it was had been “wrapped in heavy tire chains,” state police said. As if that weren’t enough, the body also was “anchored with a hydraulic jack.”

But investigators even then – near the turn of the new century – had only traditional investigative techniques at their disposal, police said. And those tools weren’t enough to identify the remains.”

[…]

“Advanced genealogy DNA testing of the Lake Barkley remains by the private lab, Othram Inc., and the National Missing and Unidentified Person System yielded a link to a relative of the unidentified body, police said.

Investigators connected the genealogical dots and were able to “identify the remains,” they said:

The body belonged to Roger Dale Parham.

“Until now,” the Kentucky police said, “Parham’s disappearance remained a mystery.”

A little more research led investigators back to Arkansas to learn Parham had been awaiting trial, they said.

The manhunt, finally, was over.“

Only nineteen! I think the upper denture made a lot of people think she was on the older side of the range, but she wasn't. Great work on the recon, too, good likeness.

Sleep well, Gwenn.

Just waiting for Othram to get to the UK so they can identify The Duchess. I love seeing so many people identified after so long.

I'm fascinated by her, her life, her death, the fact she may had a child somewhere, the fact people locally knew her. But working her family tree all out would be a huge challenge, bearing mind she wasn't born in the UK!

Honored Othram could assist the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office & Virginia State Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in identifying 5-year-old Logan Nathaniel Bowman. The people responsible for his death have been apprehended but his body was not found until last year and he is only now positively identified.

With the help of Othram, Inc., a private company based in Texas that specializes in Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing and Forensic Genetic Genealogy, the sheriff’s office was able to identify the remains as Logan Bowman, a five-year-old boy who went missing in Grayson County in January 2003.

Authorities said Logan’s biological mother Cynthia Davis and her then-boyfriend, Dennis Schermerhorn were charged in 2003 by Grayson County in connection with the disappearance of Logan.

As we reported previously, Schermerhorn was sentenced to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine. His most serious charge, felony murder, was dismissed back in 2004 due to lack of evidence in the case.

Galax remains ID’d as little boy missing for 20 years
Logan Bowman.

Logan Bowman.(Carroll County Sheriff's Office)

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - Remains found in Galax in 2022 have been identified as those of a five-year-old boy who disappeared from Grayson County in 2003.
Logan Bowman was reported missing in January 2003. Logan’s biological mother, Cynthia Davis, and her then-boyfriend, Dennis Schermerhorn, were charged in 2003 by Grayson County in connection with the disappearance of Logan, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, which says new charges are anticipated, with the boy’s remains having been found.
The body was found September 6, 2022, when the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Iron Ridge Road in Galax, where remains were found in a wooded area. The investigation indicated the remains had been there for “an extended period of time,” according to investigators.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office used Othram Inc., “a private company based in Texas that specializes in Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing and Forensic Genetic Genealogy,” according to investigators. The company developed a full DNA profile, which allowed the use of Forensic Genetic Genealogy, and two direct DNA comparisons of family members to identify the remains as being Logan Nathaniel Bowman.

Honored Othram could again assist the Kentucky State Police, this time in identifying 40-year-old Kenneth Linville, whose remains were found at the banks of the Ohio River in 1980. An investigation into his death continues. Grateful to Project Justice for funding the case!

A Christmas Miracle!! Thrilled to share Othram was able to assist Millard County Sheriff's Office in identifying Robert Holman Trent, whose remains were found in 1958. He is now identified and reunited with his daughter and grand-daughter. This case was funded by DNASolves and ALL OF YOU! Truly grateful! What a gift!
