Do you have a source link for the pic?

Edit to add: never mind, found it. But not finding anything to indicate that she's still missing.

A lot of these old reports are still sitting in the back of a file cabinet somewhere and havent been computerized. Unless it was big news in the local newspapers, there wont be many hits on the search engines.
Ive researched so many that arent in any database and its hard to find anything on google without more names and places to cross reference.
It is possible she was located but we just don't know.

I couldn't find a trace of Laura Cooke still missing, not even a trace of her existence at all. In Ancestry there are some high school pictures available of (different?) women with the same name, but I don't have access to that further. What made you think she could be this Jane Doe? What's bothering me is the age.....Laura was 12 when missing in 1972 (In september, estimated PMI, she would have been 13), my guess is a coroner would have noticed the differences between 12/13 and 16-20 IMO. If we don't know certain things about a missing person, it's impossible to make a match anyway or call it in.

The facial features, height, and the fact that she appeared older, 16 to 17 struck a chord. Plus she was 5 ft 6. Age estimates have been way off before.

And true...i cant cross reference her without names of parents or towns . Sigh.

But Laura has/had a scar below her eye...I can't recall this is somewhere mentioned on the Jane Doe file.

Did we have this article posted already?

Authorities ask for help identifying young woman who died 44 years ago

"An anthropological exam concluded that she had been dead for approximately 1-3 weeks. She was white, possibly of Southeastern European descent, about 16-19 years old, and stood 5’5"-5’8" tall."

"Recently [NCMEC] also facilitated chemical isotope analysis on her remains through the USF Forensic Anthropology Center. The results suggest she was not originally from the Lebanon County region.

NCMEC says she was probably born and raised in the Southeast, maybe even in North or South Carolina. Areas where she could have been from include Central-Eastern Texas, eastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, southern Missouri, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, central and southern West Virginia, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, southern and eastern Virginia into southern Maryland and Delaware shores."

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

I track this Jane Doe's case in NamUs.
They added another rule out today (only showing a total of two.) I was told that Sandra Hopler has been ruled out, and I would imagine many more that aren't listed.

Does anyone know what, if any, DNA testing has been done in this case?

Hi and welcome @mclogan. I guess you mean genealogical DNA testing. I'm not aware of any company working on this case at the moment, but that doesn't mean nobody is.

@othram Do you know if this Jane Doe is on somebody's radar, is anyone working on her identity, as far as you know? If not, would you be willing to take a look? I think this is one of the cases we all like to be solved. She's been so long (48 yrs as of 2021) without a name.
