WEST PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia police say a teenage girl was stabbed approximately 80 times and then set on fire by a man she met on Facebook.

The body of 15-year-old Sabriya McLean was found in the 200 block of South 49th Street late Tuesday morning.

Police: Girl, 15, stabbed 80 times, set on fire; met killer on Facebook

"According to investigators, McLean met up with the suspect, 23-year-old Cole Swaringer-Herring, on Monday night.

Sources say the suspect's parents were both out at the time and when they returned home he told them what he'd done. The next morning they alerted police.

Swaringer-Herring was arrested on the scene after the body was found under a pile of leaves by responding officers. Given the violence of the crime, investigators want to know if this suspect has killed before."

I cannot believe the suspects parents waited until the morning to contact police.:(
Didn't they think that the earlier the body is investigated, the better.
Could their son have escaped, harmed them etc?
Police always have an emergency line.

Maybe the parent's were shocked? I still can't see waiting though unless they contacted a lawyer.

This report is from December 2017. This man had prior convictions for robbery and was very quick to tell his parents what he did. (Teen girl stabbed 80 times, set on fire by man she met online: Police). Police: Teen Girl Stabbed More Than 50 Times, Body Burned By Man She Met On Facebook

I always will believe that robbery doesn't keep them in jail long enough. These type of criminals WANT to be in prison where everything is free and they never have to work a day in their lives. Since they NEVER EVER fear the death penalty anymore, they prefer living in prison to working on the outside. Many have stated such.

It is MOO, if we do not reinstate the death penalty for such heinous acts as this and when the criminals are "guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt," we are going to continue to have crimes like this instigated to allow the criminals a non-working lifestyle. The only thing they fear is their own mortality. I can't tell you how many stories I've read where the criminals "want" to be in prison.

MOO, JMO

Such a tragedy.

<modsnip - politicizing>

What were the earlier indications that this guy had some mental health issues? How many times did someone attempt to get him admitted to a mental hospital?

W. Philly man held for trial in stabbing death of girl, 15, whom he met on social media

Holy crap. From his ex-girlfriend:

"She [ex-girlfriend ~ JE] ended the relationship because "he would threaten me," she said. Then, on Nov. 27, she was at a local hospital when she said she received a Facebook message from Swaringer-Herring. He wanted to see her, and he met her at the hospital's emergency room.

"He told me he stabbed her [the other girl] and set her on fire," Jones testified.

"He said, 'I messed up, I messed up,' " Jones recalled. "He told me he had killed someone."

Kemp, while questioning Jones, read part of her Nov. 28 statement to police. In it, Jones said Swaringer-Herring told her he stabbed McLean "because I couldn't do anything to you and I was mad at you.""
