Mom was sleeping in the bed with a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old. When she woke up she found the infant to not be breathing. Dad was sleeping on the floor next to the bed,” Ambridge Police Lt. Brian Jameson said of what happened inside the couple’s apartment.

That’s when Mathews and Taylor jumped in a car and headed to the hospital. But when they ran out of gas, another driver picked them up...

The 6-month-old baby was found unresponsive in a car in the parking lot of the Sheetz on Route 65 in Baden.

The coroner’s office identifies the little girl as Kourtney Taylor, she was born in April...

[The parents] flagged down a Good Samaritan who drove them to the Sheetz and that’s where police and paramedics were called.

The baby, Kourtney Taylor, appeared to be dead at least six to eight hours prior to arriving at Sheetz, officials told Ambridge Connection.

The couple told police they found the baby earlier in the afternoon not breathing in their apartment. The couple jumped into a car parked outside to take the child to a hospital when they said they ran out of gas.

Police at the scene arrested both parents on outstanding bench warrants not related to Kourtney’s death.

Sept 30th, parents Tariq Kalem Taylor, 27, of Rochester and Katreona Mathews, 21, of Ambridge are charged with child endangerment due to their household conditions...

Police executed a search warrant Saturday on the couple’s apartment. Inside the bedroom where Ms. Mathews said the children were sleeping with her, police found a box spring with a mattress, hypodermic needles, old food and dirt, an affidavit said. In the closer of another bedroom, police found more needles and empty stamp bags.

Taylor admitted to police during an interview that he was an addict and took pills and shot heroin.

Police also found a sawed-off shotgun in the trunk of the stolen car, according to the affidavit.

"There was just nothing there to care for the children," said Lt. Brian Jameson with Ambridge Police. "No food, no bottles, no formula, no diapers, no wipes. And there was drug paraphernalia around everywhere."

That paraphernalia includes hypodermic needles, drug stamp bags, and a cooking spoon, police said. Taylor and Mathews have not been charged for the death of their baby, Kourteny Taylor.

October 31st :

Taylor and Mathews each plan to plead guilty in county court to one felony charge of endangering the welfare of a child, said Steven Valsamidis, Taylor's attorney.

"(The charges have) noting to do with the death of the child," Valsamidis said, but rather the condition of the home where they were living with their children.

Valsamidis said the Beaver County district attorney's office investigated the death of Taylor and Mathews' 5-month-old daughter and determined the couple wasn't culpable for that.
