Police say her death is a homicide, and Brackenridge Police Chief Jamie Bock said that a male neighbor, known to police, is a “person of interest”...

McGinnis' initial disappearance was a mystery because her wallet and driver's license were still in her home...

Police would not discuss where her car, a maroon 2015 Chevrolet Trax, may have gone.

Missing Woman Found Dead From Chop, Stab Wounds

McGinnis lived alone on Ninth Avenue in Brackenridge with her black cockapoo, Mandy. She was reported missing Friday, her car was gone, and her body was found inside her home the next day.

However, the medical examiner concluded that she died around 8 a.m. Friday.

The medical examiner has determined that McGinnis died from a chop wound to the head and a stab wound to the neck.

[h=1]Police Nab Person Of Interest In Brackenridge Woman’s Homicide[/h]

BRACKENRIDGE (KDKA) — Authorities in West Virginia have apprehended a man wanted in connection with the murder of a 63-year-old woman from Brackenridge.

Justin Bartlett was arrested Monday afternoon at a Rite Aid in Fairmont, West Virginia after a brief foot pursuit.

Authorities say they believe Bartlett was in possession of the victim’s car.

Bartlett has a long criminal history and was sentenced to two years in prison back in 2014 after breaking into a man’s home and setting his cat on fire.

So per this link...they were neighbors and she would let him inside her house. What on earth could this woman have done to set this man off like this? Or was it just the thrill and opportunity? UGHHHH. So sick.

Anyone who would set a cat on fire doesn't need anything to set them off. He sounds violent just for the sake of being violent. That said, I'm going to guess he was also on drugs. Meth would be my top guess.

A judge on Wednesday ordered a Brackenridge man to stand trial for the Dec. 29 murder of his neighbor based on evidence he stabbed the woman to death with a steak knife while she slept.

Justin Eliott Bartlett, 26, is accused of killing Linda K. McGinnis, 63, the next-door neighbor whom Bartlett reportedly had called “grandma.”

Bartlett has pleaded not guilty.

Assistant District Attorney Chelsie Pratt reassured the victims' family members that because of the criminal homicide charge, Bartlett will remain behind bars until the trial.

To elude a prior warrant for his arrest, Bartlett allegedly broke into McGinnis' house on Ninth Avenue to steal her car and flee to West Virginia. He intended to meet a woman he met online, police said.

Police say he panicked when the victim's dog started growling. He grabbed a knife from the kitchen sink and stabbed McGinnis while she slept in her bedroom, investigators said.

Bartlett reportedly told police he did not mean to kill McGinnis and that she did not deserve what happened to her , court records show.

Justin Elliott Bartlett, 26, pleaded guilty Monday to third-degree murder in the death of Linda McGinnis, 63, on Dec. 29 in her home.

The victim's mother, Audrey McGinnis told the court that her shy, quiet, friendly daughter liked to read, swim and take care of her beloved dog, Mandy.

“She worked very hard for 43 years and looked forward to retirement,” Audrey McGinnis said. Linda McGinnis had been retired only about a year when she was murdered.

“This has really devastated the family,” McGinnis said.
