PA PA - Mary Ann Verdecchia, 10, Bloomfield, 7 June 1962

61 years today...I still think there are answers in the Martinique.
I agree. I've followed this case since day 1--I was Mary Ann's age when she disappeared and so far as I know, the details in Rocco's book have not been discussed in mainstream media accounts. We still don't know what happened to Marcella Krulce, who disappeared from that building three years before.

In a newspaper article found through the Google newspaper search, Jean Emery is listed as being 23. This would match up to the "Reva Jean Emery" who lived from 1938-2003. She would be 23 and 24 in 1962.

My sleuthing on ancestry tells me that Reva Jean had a son who was born in 1957, yet no mention of this with Jean in 1962 so I think she may not be the right one. JMO

If she was what she was purported to be, she may not have been in his life just as Mary Ann’s mother wasn’t.

True-- cant be totally ruled out yet either. I felt like if she was a previous neighbor of Mary Ann's before she moved to the apts (which I saw mentioned in several news articles, it might have been mentioned regardless though?) I've found a few other similarly aged candidates so I'm still nosing around and will update if I find anything.

I recently became aware that there was a memorial service held on June 7th for Mary Ann and for Missing Children, near the area where she had lived. There was a special proclamation by the county. There is a plaque and there is a memorial bench dedicated. Theresa Rocco was there! I would have gone, had I known. So glad this recognition occurred. I am having an impossible time trying to attach anything to provide more info! Google "Mary Ann Verdecchia and memorial bench."

The FB page for Mary Ann is public. Pictures of the memorial can be found there.

A bright spot in an otherwise typical Pittsburgh gray day. This is the plaque that is on the park bench. Detective Therese Rocco was an incredible woman. She never ceased her quest to find answers to Mary Ann's disappearance. There is a lovely video on the Facebook page about Mary Ann, that was made on the day of the memorial this past summer. Therese Rocco was there. The bench is about a block from Mary Ann's church and school, and not far from where she had lived.

Sorry, unable to upload my picture of the plaque right now

Mary Ann’s story has possessed me since it happened. There were many similarities to each of our backgrounds. She was a little older than I and did not live too far from me. We both went to Catholic schools and were being raised by relatives. On or near the day, that, supposedly, her bracelet was found in Highland Park, my mom and aunt had taken us to the park to swim and they discussed the news as we walked on huge stone steps that led to the pool. I have Therese Rocco’s book frim the librqry. It is very well written and answers a lot of questions, of course, not the one which tells us what happened to Mary Ann. In the chapter about Mary Ann, I don’t believe that she mentioned the bracelet. Although there are internet sites which show a photo of it and quote the family members as saying that it definitely belonged to Mary Ann. Therese Rocco said that she thought that she knew who may have taken her but since there was not DNA testing back then…I am wondering about the custodian William Dozier. That incinerator always running, even in the summer. When he was asked why, he said that during this time of year the children were getting rid of their books and papers. That seemed kind of odd to me. Were there that many children living in the Martinique apartments for him to day that? Why did he tell Mary Ann that the lady who sent her on the errand to buy cat food was not home when she returned, If she sent Mary Ann on an errand, why would she not wait for her to return? I wonder if they checked the ashes in the incinerator for evidence. Also the money that she had to buy ice cream three times before her disappearance, her family did not give it to her; nor did they know where it came from. Maybe someone in the apartment gave it to her as well as the bracelet. It is impossible to commit the perfect crime. As Therese said,”Somebody knows something,”

I felt hinky about the custodian of the apartments, William Dozier, from the off, now I've read the whole thread and I learn he was bringing clients for Jean Emory who was working as a prostitute. I have an awful feeling that this poor little girl was introduced to a world that she should have known nothing about.

It didn't make any sense to me that the Dozier said he told Mary that Ms Emory had gone out while on an upper floor, but then also stated he saw Mary leave and walk towards her home. Was he watching her from the window, did he escort her out? Neither, I believe.
It also made no sense that Jean Emory sent her out to buy cat food and then went out before she got back. But it now does make sense; if this cat food story is indeed true then I believe when she got back Jean Emory was at home but was busy with a "customer" with Dozier, essentially her pimp, hanging around outside.
I wonder what happened to the cat food....

It seems that William Dozier is the link that connects all the strange things happening at the apartments. He was there and had access all areas and probably had a master key.

Mary was apparently relating stories about prostitution, it is stated she didn't know what it meant. I wonder how much she knew and if she was talking about it. I hate to wonder if these creeps were also grooming her in some way. I think one of these 2, or both, got rid of Mary to ensure her silence.
