Van der Sloot and Ms Ramírez are reported to have visited a casino before the murder, and security camera images reportedly show the couple leaving it together. Hotel employees have also stated that they saw the two together. Peruvian police are said to have found Joran van der Sloot’s footprints.

Who travels with a baseball bat ? The news this evening they have identified a baseball bat as the weapon. Yesterday I kept hearing about her being stabbed. I guess the scene was so gristly that may have been an initial assumption.

The translations are funny! There's one a page or two back that stated he was kept in a dungeon last night! If only that were true!

Just finished reading the thread. Oh my GOD, what that poor girl went through. You sick *advertiser censored*! Bruise her from her head to toe? Make her almost unrecognizable? You feel all powerful now, Joran? Did it make you feel like a man to do that to a woman?

There's no way in hell he used anything in defense. The only one defending was Stephany. Well, you picked the perfect country to do it in. Can't get a whining, delaying defense team in Peru, can you, Joran?

I didn't think I could possibly hate anyone more than Casey Anthony. I was wrong, so wrong. I almost sick at the thought of what he did to poor Stephany and what he might have to done to poor Natalee. Oh my GOD.

My heart and sincerest condolences go out to their families. I feel especially for her brother, who had to identify her. I hope he's not haunted by that last image of her broken and beaten body for the rest of his life.

And by the way, he did this. I have no doubt. There was no mystery man and he sure as hell is not someone's patsy. Beating her like that was out of deep rage. It shows how deep his hate of women was that he beat her so much she almost wasn't recognizable. That's personal, not someone trying to frame someone. No one would go to that length just to frame him.

I understand the nervousness as a carry over from Natalee's case, but be calmed. He won't get away with this. He's going to suffer for YEARS in that Peruvian prison. And he'll never to get to hurt a woman again.
 
On the "baseball bat". First, it is my choice of weapon. I keep my Louisville Slugger next to my bed 24/7. I took several self defense classes and that was the weapon I found could do the most damage (other than a gun - and I don't believe in them - if I had one I would probably be shot with it).

So, I'm thinking the bat came from her vehicle. We have all read that she was athletic - had 4 brothers - played soccer. A baseball bat in her vehicle would be understandable.

Now, when JVDS and Stephany are in her vehicle - she's probably driving - he looks around and spies the bat. Tells her as they get out - lets take this with us - you never know whose around - you have all that money on you.... etc etc.

I'm really wondering if they have JVDS on tape going into the hotel with the bat.

Could be that he carried it with him in his duffel bag. One would fit in those large bags and it is a "legal" weapon - with no questions being asked.

I remember from Natalee's case that he has BIG feet! IIRC, they are size 14. Didn't he lose his shoe the night Natalee disappeared?

His footprint has to be pretty unique. He's toast!

I just wanted to write a quick note to express my discomfort with how the mainstream media is covering the arrest of Joran van der Sloot in Chile.

Lost in the headlines, is 21 year old Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez, the Peruana who was found dead with a broken neck in a hotel room under Van der Sloot’s name.

Don’t get me wrong. I think what happened to Natalee Holloway, which we may never fully know is horrible and my heart goes out to her family, but so much of the U.S. media’s coverage shows how much more valuable the life of an attractive white young woman is compared to a Latin American woman in a Latin American country.

So much of the coverage is how this could be a breakthrough in Natalee’s case. There are new interviews with Natalee’s parents and see whose picture you see more of, Natalee’s or Stephany’s.
