    I live in Massachusetts and started following these these two cases when they were still disappearances, and I've always thought they really might be connected to the "river killer" cases. There's no real rational explanation for how these two young men ended up where they did - one in the Charles River, the other in the Boston Harbor. The man who was discovered in the Boston Harbor years later was staying at a hotel with his girlfriend and went outside for a smoke in the early morning hours after a late night out in the city.

    Gene Losik

    http://www.wickedlocal.com/northandover/news/x999952887/Body-of-missing-NAHS-grad-found#axzz1SDHlGttj

    and here were some threads on his disappearance and recovery:

    http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96338&highlight=Losik

    Also, William Hurley, who disappeared after a Bruins game in Boston just 4 months before Gene Losik, and was waiting for a ride home from his girlfriend:

    http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2009/10/body_of_william_hurley_of_quin.html

    Both men were in the middle of doing normal mundane things - going outside for a smoke, waiting for a ride home from a hockey game - when they disappeared. They'd each had alcohol that night but neither appeared impaired to people that were with them. IMO there is no rational explanation for how they ended up in the water - no way they could have accidentally fallen in - Hurley disappeared in October, when the nights in Boston start getting cold, and Losik in February, when it would have been undoubtedly frigid at that hour.

    I have followed the deaths of male college students/river deaths for a long time but Franco's death has hit hard. My son attends MIT in Cambridge (also a clarinet player) and his residence is by the river so I constantly worry about him.

    Deep condolences go out to Franco's family and friends.. May he rest in peace..

    The first link has news video of the discovery of his body and the second link has photos.. The article is the same as the one posted above...

    The location of this crime and the circumstances made me wonder if he could be a victim:
    [ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7875505#post7875505"]http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7875505#post7875505[/ame]

    He's older than many of the victims in this case, but he looks fairly young.

    I live about 6 blocks from where Garcia was found. I was able to give my condolences/thoughts and prayers to his poor parents at a vigil outside the bar he was last seen at. I know this area pretty well and I still can't conceive of how he ended up in the Reservoir by his own volition - he was seen on surveillance camera walking purposefully and not seeming impaired at all, up a busy street next to the reservoir, with no signs of drunkenness. IMO you'd have to be really drunk and staggering to fall into the reservoir. Furthermore, it's not directly next to the street he was walking down - you have to take a dirt pathway into the woods and to the reservoir. I don't know why he would think of walking there at night when you could just stay on a main, well-lit road like Chestnut Hill Ave to get back to campus, which is presumably where he was going. Maybe a BC/former BC/Chestnut Hill resident can shed light on this - do kids frequently walk on the Res. path back to campus? it just wouldn't seem safe to me, especially by yourself. That's why I think his case, Gene Losik's, and William Hurley's all seem related to this river killer to me - as a native Bostonian, I just can't conceive of how they would end up in the bodies of water that they ended up in willingly - I've walked Boston at night plenty of times and these are not waterways that you can just slip and fall into easily, especially if you're in a city and can get to where you're going on a well-lit street. None of these men were visibly drunk, and none of them to me had a reason for walking down to the water - Hurley was waiting for a ride home; Losik went outside his hotel to smoke a cigarette; Garcia was walking home from a bar. It just makes no sense.

    hurley's disappearance/death is one of the cases that led me to this site... i don't know much about losik (other than the parallels made in the hurley thread) and garcia's case certainly seems suspect to me, but hurley's i refuse to accept as accidental drowning. eevery time i am at the garden, i think of that case and how no one waiting for a ride would be anywhere remotely near a place he could just fall into the water and drown in slow moving/still waters.

    I used to live a block from the resevoir, and was shocked when I saw this case on the news. A roommate of mine even worked at the bar Garcia was at that night. I remember immediatley thinking "smiley face killer" when I heard the story. I'm wondering if anyone has searched the area for a smiley face graffitti at all. I'm tempted myself to walk the track around the resevoir and look, but I don't live near there anymore. There are many walls and old buildings along the track that contain graffitti.

    I am a Massachusetts resident and also someone who lost a friend who was a victim of the Charles. NO ONE understands still, almost a year later...no one gets it...Michael Kelleher was my friend and a victim of this. He was born and raised in Massachusetts, and incredibly smart and talented, he loved the Celtics and never one to get absolutely wasted at events like this. Michael was not heard from or seen after the basketball game with friends until about a week later when his body was found in the Charles. I'm sorry but being a friend of his, he is not stupid enough to roam around the harbor while being intoxicated, I highly doubt he was even that drunk to wander around the river. Boston Police have firmly said there is no serial killer...but how the hell are you going to say that when Michael was a friend and then SIX OTHER MEN WENT MISSING right after that and many before him...these people are not falling and drowning, there is something here and I refuse to allow police officers and other government officials tell me my friend, and other men who've gone missing are THAT STUPID to go anywhere close to the nasty waters of the Charles River. I also don't believe that it was accidental on any accords...someone knew, someone saw, just in todays society everyone's afraid to speak up to save someone's life, they'd rather save themselves and deal with the burden of knowing.

    I started looking into this a few years ago because I knew of incidents of girls being drugged at bars in Faneuil Hall back in the late 90s, turns out by a cab driver who would later take them home and assault them. Most of the women did not recollect the events and it was not until the guy was buster for something else and caught with the women's property did anyone know what had happened. After seeing some of the footage I wondered if something like that had happened inside the bar as well to these guys. The media for some reason has added the first death of the BU music professor (although older than the rest) in with these men, which then got me thinking...What if these men are lured in some way, and what if whoever is doing this is someone like a professor? Which could account for moving from university town to university town? I babble...who knows...I lived downtown long enough and partied everywhere as a college student and early 20 something...if you could fall in water accidently I'd have done it...but its impossible

    I am looking back at all of these bars located in Boston...they are not "steps from the water" with the exception of the Marriot Long Wharf which I am guessing is Tias (the bar there). Speaking from bar experience there is absolutely NO WAY, you could fall in the water...anywhere...walking by accident, slipping, you name it...even at Long Wharf (regardless of time of day someone would notice). The other bars (Faneuil Hall area, Mary-Anns, etc.) are not close by water and where the men were eventually located are not even in close proximity to the bars ...(Chestnut Hill Reservoir is not a short walk from Mary-Anns when you are drunk) nor would they be a way anyone would take home walking...if you were walking...I doubt someone could even fall into the Charles intentionally to be honest. As I said earlier, I probably would have done it in my college days if it was possible being the clutz that I am and notorious for falling. I have also walked all over Boston at all hours like an idiot in my younger days in the freezing winter and heat of the summer. Even the Nashua St. location...that's at the jail basically...there are people around there all of the time! That is right by the staff parking lot (or what was). I could seriously go on about every bar mentioned and walking to the locations where people were located and the impossibility of it being an accident because I have left every one of them probably at one time in my life (I was a Boston college student and grew up in the city for most of my young adult life...I moved out of the city in 2007).
