Lucas Hernandez from Wichita, KS

KIELY RODNI, 16, TRUCKEE, CA

“Last night we did receive some information of the recovery of the vehicle that we’ve been searching for and it was located inside Prosser Lake,” Moon said at a Monday news conference. “It was located within a search zone that we have been searching since the very beginning of our operation.”

Kiely Rodni was recovered from Prosser Lake Reservoir on Sunday, Aug 21, 2022 by the volunteer water search team Adventures with Purpose of Oregon.

Selena Not Afraid

Found less than a mile from where she went missing in an open filed that had been searched multiple times

I remember a case I followed here on WS several years ago. A car crashed off of the road, a search ensued. No body was found, and many theories abounded. However, a couple of years later, the body was found just right near the crash site. I have been searching google, but since my memory fades and I don't have a name, a state, or even a year, I can't find this particular case!! I am now frustrated and will probably remember in the middle of the night! Haha

I just remember how incredibly frustrated we all were that the body was found right where the car had crashed!

OH - EMILY NOBLE

DELAWARE, Ohio – The day the Westerville Police Department announced Emily Noble’s remains were found Chief Charles Chandler told reporters that the area where her body was found had been searched three times.

Arnold Archambeau and Ruby Bruguier
Arnold (20) and Ruby (18) lived in Lake Andes, South Dakota, and were both part of the Yankton Sioux Tribe. On December 11, 1992, a vehicle they were in hit a patch of black ice and overturned. Both of them exited the car and did not return. LE, led by the local Sheriff, family members, and a local man on horse walked the surrounding area several times over the next few weeks (including at a point where the weather had warmed and all the water had dried up) but found nothing.
On March 10, 1993, a motorist found Ruby floating in meltwater located 75 feet from the accident site. She was heavily decomposed. The water was pumped and Arnold was found, 15 feet away from his girlfriend, under 4feet of water, less decomposed. The medical examiner determined that they both died of hypothermia.
Confused about not finding them earlier, the local state attorney stated "One, they weren't there after the accident. "Two, all of a sudden the bodies show up March 10 and 11." Family members, however, thought that LE were just making excuses for their shoddy police work and had deliberately not searched fully due to the missing being natives. However, they also believed that the bodies had not been there since December.
This case is still open. "I believe they were placed in the ditch after they passed away someplace else," the sheriff maintained upon his retirement. "I do know that they weren't there in January. It's pretty hard to prove somebody was murdered when you don't have any evidence to prove it."

possibilities that led to this outcome:
-they truly were the victims of foul play and had been moved back to that location in March
-they were in that location all along and, despite being well searched, weren't found, likely due to being underwater
-law enforcement exaggerated how well they had searched and their negligence led to them not being found

Rodney Letterman (linking to posts from his websleuths thread because much of the MSM material has not been archived). This one is a bit tentative because I don't think LE/SAR has ever straight up come out and say they searched this area before.
Letterman was last seen at Devil's Den State Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas on August 28, 2017. He was hiking on the Butterfield Trail with a friend when, at about 12:00 p.m., Letterman wasn't feeling well (I believe he had high blood pressure?) and sat down to rest. He had left his blood pressure medicine in the car, so his friend went back to get it for him. When he returned, Letterman was gone.
The search included 127 workers and volunteers who searched 4000 acres (6 square miles) surrounding the Butterfield Trail.
His skeletal remains, in multiple pieces, were found February 25, 2019, 3 miles from the visitor's center on private property. Per this image used by MSM, the area his skull was found appears to also be ~3 miles from the trail head and very well might have been in the search radius.

The website StrangeOutdoors, which IMO is 411-esque and thus skewed towards creating a good creepy story as they are subscription-based, states "Park officials did re-evaluate search records and found the area where these remains were found was searched back in 2017. So Rodney managed to get to the spot after the searchers departed." However, because they do not cite their sources, I cannot confirm this.

Damond was reported missing Jan 1 when his car was found running and abandonned, with a flat tire, near an overpass. The search included drones, foot patrols, all-terrain vehicles, search and rescue canines, volunteers, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department’s Search and Rescue Team, and resources from the California Office of Emergency Services.
On Jan 7, a motorist spotted the body just below the shoulder of the road, who contacted police who subsequently informed family who were already searching in the area. He was found in an area that had already been searched.
While police believe that Damond was killed in a hit and run (and have a suspect vehicle), family believe foul play is involved and his body was thrown from a car days after his disappearance. They are querying this due to his clothes being clean despite recent storm activity.

This is an ongoing case and the autopsy is pending.

(imo - this is not the first time that family and LE disagree about the possibility of foul play, and I understand the 'allure' of foul play in that it makes the loved one's death feel more pointed and able to be avenged. I do not have access to scene photos but I am assuming that, if there had been recent rain followed by a dry period, his body and clothes could have been washed clean and air dried?)

Wow, I didn't know this thread existed and just stumbled across it! What a great idea. I have a couple of lists but this is the only one ready to go with links. It's specific to searches that included K-9's. Can't wait to read through this thread. :)

Christina Morris, TX - missing 2014, remains located 2018

Volunteers looking for kidnap victim Christina Morris had searched three times in the wooded area where she was eventually found. Police searched there several times, too.

So when a work crew spotted her skeletal remains in plain sight on Wednesday, the heartbroken searchers couldn't help but ask themselves: "How did we miss her?"

"We were right there," said RO, one of the coordinators for the dedicated group of searchers known as Team Christina. "There's gotta be more to it than we just missed her ... we were very thorough in our searches."

Roberts says Owens had been missing for almost two months.
She says her family and police searched the cornfield a week before Owens’ body was found.
“She was not there,” said Roberts. “I can prove it.”

Will be following this one; not much known but some worrying details. I think it may be possible the body was moved but idk

19 Feb 2023

Police searching for missing U.K. mom Nicola Bulley said Sunday they had found a body.

A body was recovered from the River Wyre close to where Bulley went missing, Lancashire Police said. The body has not yet been formally identified, but Bulley's family has been informed.

Ronald Henry, WI - 2023

The discovery ends an extensive search of the area that lasted weeks and involved multiple agencies.

Jayden Robker
Went missing on Feb 2nd. Searches include a canvas by family + Group Against Crime members, and a canvas by Kansas City PD which included drones. On March 10, his body was found in a pond in a wooded area behind some apartments, which is ~1 mile from where he was last seen. FBI and US Marshal's now investigating. No further information released.

some reasons I think he was missed for over a month:
-misidentification as a runaway lessened the police's interest in searching initially
-the body wouldn't have been seen once it had sunk due to the depth of the pond
-as he wasn't a young child/autistic and water-seeking/under the influence when missing, people wouldn't immediately guess he'd be found in water so their focus was elsewhere

Drexyll Tolstoy, NY - 2023

A family’s six-month search for a missing Manhattan tattoo artist ended when cops found his decomposed body steps from where he was last seen, his devastated mother told the Daily News.

“How was he found right there? He was there the whole time,” Kellie Tolstoy told the Daily News on Saturday. “He’s been laying there for six months.”

Jesus Moreno was last seen on August 1, 2022, leaving a bus and walking towards a nearby bridge and wharf (caught on CCTV). Searches included heat guns, divers, dog searches, and specialist marine and underwater search officials. 8 months since DLC, police reported that "every possible line of inquiry had been exhausted".
His case was featured on Channel 5's Vanished: The Hunt for Britain's Missing People on April 13 2023. The day after it aired, another search team was deployed to the area around the wharf and found Jesus's body. The timing is a bit odd, as on the surface it looks like full police interest wasnt triggered until his case went public on Channel 5...
