''GARDAI investigating the brutal killing of a female taxi driver in Galway believe she was battered to death in a country laneway. Then her killer drove her taxi back into the city where he made his escape. The apparently random killing of Eileen Costello O'Shaughnessy (47) has shocked and frightened Galway taxi drivers. Female colleagues of the separated mother-of-two were too upset to talk yesterday.Eileen's fully clothed body was discovered at midday by a farmer in the Knockdoemore area, a couple of miles from the village of Claregalway. The body was lying in a laneway about 200 yards from the main Galway-Tuam road.

Gardai say they are keeping an open mind on the motive for the murder. The dead woman's clothes were not unduly disturbed and her money pouch was still in the car when it was found just two miles from the city centre.''

Eileen Costello O’Shaughnessy, a taxi driver, was battered to death after she took a routine fare to Claregalway at about 8pm on the night of November 30th. Her taxi was found at midnight that night with visible signs of violence. Her body was found the next day in the townland of Knockdoemore, outside Galway, 200 metres from the main road. She had been assaulted and murdered. Twenty years later another appeal for information was issued, but as yet her killer has not been found. JO’C''
