On May 1, 1997 he traveled with a friend to Hungary in his Mitsubishi Pajero, cross-country car. The friend stopped in Gyula, at the border to Romania.
Vincenzo Verdini, continued to Békés, twenty kilometers, to meet his girlfriend and go hunting, he carried a Weatherby 270W gun. The friends decide on a time to meet and go back to Italy the following day. The friend waited for 24 hours, before he made his way back to Italy and reported Verdini as missing to the police.
His car was located on May 9, close to a hospital in Bucharest. The gun is missing.
His girlfriend in Békél says she only saw him for a little while, Verdini had told her he had to leave to meet with someone in another city.
His disappearance may be related to the disappearance of Mario Calò and Carmen Iamandi.
