I would hope that any shovels etc in the garden shed would be closely checked for foreign soil etc.

Vicpol get pretty interested in shovels in a missing persons case.

They took a shovel from Borce Ristevski's place. Link
And they found two shovels in the bush along a road that Greg Lynn had travelled, and took those. Link

imo

PS and SM may not have known each other first hand, but I am thinking that they may have known each other by sight even so, via the local newspaper. In my local newspaper there are plenty of local news stories with photos, some citizens appear quite often in relation to various things, so in fact I do know who they are, and would probably recognize them. Samantha may have appeared in articles about local theatrics and PS in football reports.

It generally is taken as a not guilty plea. Things roll on. I can't think of an occasion when it has been taken as a guilty plea. Saying nothing buys you nothing. The court and justice and the entire panoply of jurisprudence rolls on without your input, should you so desire. It does not stop merely because you do not make a plea.
Remaining silent long term would be rare. Gawd, Baden Clay could not remain silent. Was his insistence to testify that caused his downhill run.

And let's not forget the tools in Chad Daybell's shed with Tylee's DNA on them. :(

I think a lot has been made of PS and his football .
Last reference to any football participation I can find is he being part of the Redan under 19’s in the BFL ( Ballarat Football League).Thats 3-4 years ago.Happy to be told otherwise .

The region this took place is very bush fire prone and there were bush fires at the time.

Now from my own accounts after a bush fire, it's very common to go around and encounter big holes from where a dead tree has burnt out. In fact, sometimes these places cannot be ridden by offroad motorbike because there's too many large holes and a nasty accident is almost a given.

So the idea of locating such a hole to use as a grave is not out of the question and I am sure concealing it would not be that hard either. You could quite easily fill it in and even go as far as to transplant one of the native grass trees on top. These trees have the ability to survive bush fires and are abundant in the region from the few pictures I have seen of the forests.

Granted, the relocating of a grass tree may be a little difficult. So covering a hole with dirt and burnt timber would be a seemingly minimal effort and more likely option.

The theory of SM being buried in a garden bed is an interesting one, certainly softer earth to dig, however I find Whatson's theory more plausible here - buried in the bush then transplanting a native shrub on top of the grave, scatter some leaves and fallen branches around and I think that would easily fool most searchers imo.

plus possibly saw each other regularly along the running track/short cut, he might also remember her as the uniform lady, especially if she showed him kindness

Yes. The ~8 hour window on Sunday is a maximum. He returned to his employment on the Monday and I’m presuming he was there all week. This would reduce timeframe when he could return to move, or further conceal SM…in amongst the frenzy going on locally with her disappearance hitting media.
I’m tending to think her body, the biggest obstacle he had to dispose of, was done on the Sunday. I think the ‘trophies’ were maybe gradually destroyed and disposed of over coming days. This would account for the pinging of SM’s device later Sunday as it was in his possession. He may have wanted to research about disposal or further dismantle these trophies and destroy them before getting rid of whatever remained
Apologies all. I thought I had completed my response to Neet_Mc's post, but clearly had not.

IIRC there had been a post not long after the alleged perpetrator of Samantha Murphy''s murder had been named, which had
mentioned that he worked as an electrician for his father, former AFL footballer Orren Stephenson.

I had intended to post the media link from that post, but have been unable to find it, despite searching for ages. Maybe it was deleted. I'm starting wonder whether I dreamed it!!.

I had intended to respond to Neet_Mc's post mentioning that, whilst he may have been officially "at work" all week, he may have had some degree of latitude in terms of being actually "on the job", given that his dad was the boss. JMO

Old article republished.
Yes thank you JLZ. I understand. There is nothing in today's WE Australian about the SM case so I posted this which is again published today 23 March 2024 as noted and dated by me accordingly. There are other links in that article relating to the SM case which I believe other members here might find interesting to read.

Thank you JLZ.

I too have come across a statement about a relative of a tradesperson (not electrician if I can recall correctly) and I believe it came from the BigFooty Forum but I dismissed it. This maybe unrelated to your reading and your recalled recollection. A lot of stuff is posted on that forum. Could it have been here in Sleuths?

It can't be permanent. How would they service it?

Also, how do you know so much about this water tank?

I’ve been past it , I’m guessing you haven’t .
It’s impossible for the perp to access that tank unless he has a specialist work crew with him , a mobile crane work tower and half a day at his leisure .

I, too, remember reading that he worked with his father.

And, if that was the case, he could've made any old excuse to leave the site to go off and do whatever.

I hope police search around any job sites he may have been on, especially near the bush. He would've had the opportunity to scope out hiding places.

You've been past it? That's the extent of your knowledge?
Have you been closer than the google street view image that we can all access, and that has already been posted?

If so, please explain.

If someone wanted to get in, they most likely could with the right motivation.
Shakes head … do you want me to actually go there and take some photos ?

I am pretty confident the water tank would have already been inspected during the early stages of the search for SM.

Besides, this type of structure is typically owned by the local council and has measures in place to prevent public access. Most likely two different lock types and/or a caged off ladder or a ladder that only runs the upper half of the tank and you need to connect a temporary one to access.

CCTV also.

Regarding the water tank..

1. It's fenced off (and assuming suitably locked).

2. It appears there is a caged ladder structure to the top (also assuming suitably locked).

3. There's no hole on the top

Possible access from below top level I guess. Maybe a room placed inside the tank at the last 2 meter mark with computers and monitoring equipment.
