GUILTY SC - Grace Carlson-SantaCruz, 5 mos, Myrtle Beach, 3 Nov 2015

I can see the comments. What in the world?? How did she have custody of those children? Why didn't (or did they?) someone call CPS!

I think her acquaintances are about to feel the backlash from this. Surely anybody close should have done something. Is the bystander phenomenon really that powerful that nobody did anything?!

Its there...you hit the link and you will see the post with all the comments.

Following the bread crumbs, I found a pic of baby Grace's birth announcement. She is soooo precious.... and tiny. Only 5 pounds, 6 ounces. I hope they find you baby girl, tucked away in a safe warm spot. You deserve a life of love, hope and happiness.

Oh Dear, Not another crime in Myrtle Beach! Those poor officers of the Horry County Sheriff's Department have been through a lot in the past few years.

There are so many missing persons in the town/county, you would think it was part of the Bermuda Triangle!

Now a precious 5 month old baby girl. For Goodness Sake what is wrong with these women? How Do You just loose a baby in a creek, then calmly knock on a neighbor's door and just tell them what happened? I am not expecting a good outcome for this sad story!

Sending Prayers for the Remaining Family of Baby Grace and her Big Sister!

This is so close in timing to Baby Chance who had the terrible druggie parents too.

I am still not understanding how these women, drug addicts, who have just given birth, are allowed to leave the hospital with their baby. It seems like in this day and age we live in, that this could be stopped!

Once your blood is drawn at the hospital, one has no idea what is being done with it. If the lab checked it for illegal drugs, because a doctor or nurse suspected it, that seems it would be a valid reason. The professionals need to know what is in your system before you are given anesthesia. Also, if an emergency arises, they need to know what you've taken. Just make it SOP - Standard Operating Precedure- for all
Mothers giving birth.

My opinions only.

Thanks Steleman! I believe the part you have labeled as Swamp and Creek (label E) is the "creek" where she claims to have thrown the baby. The distance is only about 500 feet from the house. The larger waterway is the Intracoastal Waterway, the creek flows into the IW.

Thanks for editing the map. I believe the creek you are referring to is probably the one that runs through Negro Field swamp. I hadn't seen any reference to that area in the news media reports, but I imagine that the MSM had tiptoed around that out of political correctness. I can only imagine what the locals call it. But if that's the name of it, then that's the name of it, let's all grow up here.

That also helps the news articles make more sense, it's easier to envision now where she would have come walking up out of the water in relation to where she lived.

I would think they could have easily dammed up one end or both ends of that creek either with a big net, plugging it with a boat, or something similar. There might be a good chance they will find her today, if they took such steps late yesterday evening. Hopefully the current and the flow rate through that creek won't be all that strong. Obviously, the key is to keep her from reaching the main waterway.

I revised the map to reflect the most likely scenario and points of interest. See here:

It looks like I may need to amend my initial diagnosis of postpartum psychosis. It may still have something to do with that, but if so, it was probably exacerbated with a thick icing of crystal meth and some bath salt sprinkles, along with a side dish of pot brownies.

I think there may be an off chance that mommy dearest planned on committing suicide, but quickly abandoned the idea once she realized that drowning one's self isn't as easy as it sounds...... whereas drowning an infant is much easier than it should be.

It looks like most of the news stations have have changed the story from "she threw her baby into the creek" to "she went into the creek with the baby and lost her in the rushing water". http://wbtw.com/2015/11/03/socastee-woman-says-she-threw-child-in-creek-search-underway/

"Toney then reportedly told the homeowner she went into the creek with her child, Lt. Denis adds. Investigators revealed that Toney lost her baby in a rushing creek, behind a home on Simms Drive."

Is this a 5 month old or a 5 year old?

More details http://wbtw.com/2015/11/04/news-13-...who-says-she-lost-her-baby-in-socastee-creek/

"Horry county police say Toney, who is the mother of at least two children, went into the water behind her house on Sims drive with her 5-month-old infant and ended up 1/4 mile down at Shem Creek Circle."

This makes it sound like she went into the water behind her house on Sims Dr and came out down the creek behind the houses on Shem Creek Circle.

"Initially it was reported that the woman said she threw the child in the water, but officers later clarified that report."

Imagine baby girl's life before being thrown in the river :(

A little O/T, and it will not help Baby Grace, but right now I have friends that are fostering a meth addicted baby, and if/when Bio-mom's rights are terminated, they will adopt her. It is Bio-mom's 3rd strike. The first baby was born addicted and adopted by the grandmother. 18 months later the 2nd addicted baby was born and grandmother asked a young couple at church to take him. They did and he has been adopted. Now another 18 months later, baby #3 is born addicted and living with the my friend, whose sister adopted the 18 month old. She is 6 weeks old. They took her home from the hospital after 7 days and are currently weaning her off of methadone. Bio-mom signed papers to have her tubes tied to avoid jail time. It is really sad that it took 3 addicted babies for her to stop. Bio-mom has not even been sentenced for charges related to baby #2 and it's been a year and a half. I don't know what needs to change. I am thankful for my friends, their family and their church. I have seen first hand how hard it is to sooth these babies.

ETA: I'm not suggesting that Baby Grace was born addicted or that mom is on drugs. It's just that after baby Chance and some of the others, and now Baby Grace - this epidemic breaks my heart. This may not be the ideal place for my post... I don't know... Just sad today.

Two SCDNR boats headed downstream Wednesday morning along with the dive team. By about 9:30 a.m., more crews showed up for the search, and some volunteers were seen in the area, wondering how they can help find Baby Grace.

Crews are working in the same area as they did yesterday, in a location about one mile to one half-mile up and down the creek and in the woods.

Other organizations assisting in the search include the CUE Center for Missing Persons, the State Law Enforcement Division, as well as officials from Darlington County and Hartsville.

They're patrolling a small concentrated area, and hope to be able to resolve this by Wednesday.

Until we reform mental health care, and treat the underlying psychological issues that drive drug addictions, instead of merely ordering the drug user to sober up, we aren't going to get anywhere trying to solve the babies-born-to-addicts issue. People seeking to fill a void within themselves often turn to sex, drugs, and/or having babies, which is how we end up here all too frequently. MOO.
