SC - Mallory Beach, 19, found deceased after boat crash, Beaufort Co, 24 Feb 2019 *Alex Murdaugh charged*

Looks like history is repeating itself with another senseless death along the lines of Mallory Beach's story. A teenage girl was killed in a similar manner in Massachusetts when an intoxicated male driving the boat crashed it. I looked for a thread for Sadie Mauro but didn't locate one.

A 19-year-old will be in a Barnstable courtroom on Tuesday, charged in a deadly boat crash in Dennis.

Prosecutors say David K. Sullivan was driving the boat that crashed in Sesuit Harbor on July 21. He faces charges including operating a boat under the influence.

Seventeen-year-old Sadie Mauro was killeed in the crash. She would have been a senior in high school this year.

Mauro's body was recovered from the water by the regional dive team
, with assistance from Dennis Fire-Rescue personnel, around 11:30 p.m. on the night of the crash, officials have said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the boat — a Regulator equipped with two outboard 250 horsepower engines bearing an Alabama registration — was occupied by six people at the time of the crash, which occurred at the jetty by the channel leading to the Northside Marina.

It's unclear how Sullivan and Mauro knew each other, but both were lacrosse players.

Sullivan attended the prestigious Roxbury Latin School, and currently attends Dartmouth College, where he's been a member of the lacrosse team.

Mauro, who lived in Sherborn with her parents and brother, was an elite lacrosse player at Dover-Sherborn High School.

"What occurred that night was an unimaginable tragedy," Sullivan's attorney, David E. Meier, said in a statement. "But what occurred was an accident — in every sense of the word. These criminal charges only compound that tragedy for everyone involved."

The charges that Sullivan was indicted on are death of a person caused by operating a vessel under the influence of intoxicating liquor, possessing false RMV documents, minor in possession of alcohol, two counts of operation of a vessel while under the influence of intoxicating liquor causing serious bodily injury and reckless or negligent operation of a vessel causing death.

Hampton County to partner with Mallory Beach-inspired Mal's Palz, build animal shelter

11.13.2023

The tragic, untimely death of a Hampton County teen may ultimately leave behind a positive impact in the community she called home, and for the animals she called friends.

The Hampton County Council has agreed to explore a partnership with the Mallory Beach-inspired Mal's Palz Foundation with the ultimate goal of building a new county animal shelter.

The County Council voted unanimously Monday, Nov. 6, to approve a resolution "committing to exploring the possibility of partnering with Mal's Palz," a charitable organization founded in memory of Beach, a 19-year college student from Hampton County who died in a highly publicized February 2019 boating accident in Beaufort County that involved the now notorious Alex Murdaugh family.

did male victims already settle?

Tinsley confirmed in a follow-up conversation on Tuesday, July 18, the full amount of the settlement exceeds a $15 million sum initially reported, with additional money also to be divvied among four other boat crash survivors: Miley Altman, Morgan Doughty, Anthony Cook and Connor Cook.

Patrick Carr, attorney for Anthony Cook, explained Tuesday the full amount of the settlement is $18.5 million. The Parker's Kitchen company will be responsible for paying $18 million, and the remaining $500,000 will come from a boat insurance policy Alex Murdaugh had on the boat involved in the crash, Carr said.

From that money, Carr says $15 million will be due to the Beach family, $1.1 million to Morgan Doughty, $1 million each to Connor Cook and Anthony Cook, and $400,000 to Miley Altman. That all depends on final approval of the settlement agreement by the courts, Carr added.

Above snipped by me…..

Below BBM - is there any news on that investigation? Any results from it known? Is it being conducted by SLED? Other South Carolina state investigators?

In the above ABC News 4 article dated July 16, 2023 is the following statement:

Meantime, there's a pending investigation into Alex Murdaugh for obstruction of justice related to the Beach boat crash death case. Tinsley and others believe there's evidence Murdaugh and his father, a former circuit solicitor, tried to derail the case against his son in the weeks and months following the boat crash by enticing the other survivors of the boat crash to testify Connor Cook was driving.

Paul Murdaugh was eventually charged with several felony counts of boating under the influence, but those charges were dropped following his death.

5 years ago today Mallory Beach lost her life. 5 years ago today her family waited for her body to be found while some people in law enforcement tried to help Alex. 5 years later those people still have badges and S.C. is still second in DUI related deaths. Do better. Demand more

At the time of her death, Mallory was living with her mother and working full-time at Retail Therapy, a clothing store in Beaufort.

“That was her passion, just clothes and shoes,” says Renee, who says her daughter was also a fan of interior decorating.

“I could go to bed, wake up the next day, and she would have painted her room a different color,” she says. “There were so many layers of paint on her wall.”

She would paint her bedroom walls at least once a year.

“She would need, of course, different bedspreads or curtains, because she'd painted her room,” she says. “But she would do it, and then she would get tired of it or see something else, and she would go buy the paint, she would come and do it all over the wall.”

Mallory Beach's Mother Opens up 5 Years After Her Daughter Died in Murdaugh Boat Crash

February 24, 2024

“We hit a bridge in the boat. We can’t find Mallory, mom,” Mallory’s boyfriend, Anthony Cook, said during the night of the crash.

News of the crash made its way to her father a few hours later.

“He told me what happened and there was an accident, and they were looking for her and my whole world just ... my heart just dropped,” Phillip Beach said.

The law enforcement response was vast, but they wouldn’t find her for more than a week.

“She was a loving, caring person. She had a passion for less fortunate people as well as neglected and stray animals. Her faith meant a lot to her,” Phillip Beach said.

The investigation began right away. Officers were trying to figure out how this boat hit a bridge and launched Mallory Beach overboard, leading to her death.

“What about the driver of the boat? Is he 21?” a law enforcement agent is heard on dash cam.

“No,” a law enforcement agent responds.

“So, everybody on the boat’s been drinking?” a law enforcement agent says. “Yeah,” one responds.

Father of woman who died in boat allegedly crashed by Paul Murdaugh says he feels ‘betrayed’ 5 years after her death

This misconduct should be prosecuted.

In a section of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Boat Accident Report, an officer listed what contributed to the accident. Alcohol is not checked.

Later in that same report, the primary cause of the accident is listed as no proper lookout. The secondary cause is listed as excessive speed. Alcohol, yet again, is nowhere to be found.

But there's no word that there is any investigation ongoing and DNR denies there was any misconduct.

WTOC brought his concern to South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, who was the lead agency on the case. The agency responded, “We stand by our investigation of this accident. While there are always things to learn and improve on, no evidence of any impropriety has been found or brought to our attention. It is important to note that both SLED and the AG’s Office assisted and were actively involved in this case beginning in March of 2019.”

A day late in posting, but the sentiment/message stands.

Today Mallory Beach would have been 25 years old. She was loved by many and is deeply missed. Underage drinking and the illegal sales of alcohol to minors is a real danger to everyone. Only the people who are making billions off the lives of the innocent are happy!
