"You yearn for a simpler time when people were polite, curt, and followed the rules. Maybe people say you’re a conformist, but you know you just like things to stay a certain way. Home is where the heart is."

I did not follow the link, simply because it is past bed time for me and they downstairs neighbor and company will not stop talking. Sounds..

At any rate, I can say without a test, I was raised to be something that never could be. My sister suffered the same idea, but somehow made it sort of happen before she went,

Late 1890's to 1913. Hope that is in the quiz.

Hope one of my neighbors stops talking, and sometimes wish I was on the old farm. One day I will need others more, right now, a few days drive with a maximum 30 minute visit seems nice. I did not get what Mom did, nor what she raised us for. I got working life instead.

The killer :jail: is going to shut her mouth on Twitter?? :dunno:

:fireworks:

I don't know if I believe her :pinocchio:

Yes. Having a hard time with this tonight for some reason. Addiction absolutely sucks. Dammit. Rest in paradise, PSH. God bless your family..

I opened mail from Court Chatter this morning, and they had a brief notice about Philip Seymour Hoffman's death. When I first heard about his death last night, it really disturbed me that a 46 year old man, who seemed to have everything- an Oscar, 3 children, and doing something he obviously wanted and loved to do in his life- acting (and being very good at it, too), and a a long-time partner- would have a drug problem and would die because of it.

http://www.courtchatter.com/

What drives people to drugs, alcohol, or even cigarettes? Since I'm a complusive person and had to find out what this drug addiction was all about, I Googled. If I didn't, I wouldn't be able to let go of the need to know.
Previously, my notion of any addiction in a person was that there was something "lacking" in their life. My addiction with cigarettes stems back, I think, to when I was 9 months old and my mother abrubtly stopped breast feeding me because she was pregnant with my brother (don't laugh- she said I cried and cried and nothing would console me). My brother's drug addiction stems back to when he burned his whole right leg when he was 5 years old trying to put out a fire in a vacant lot in The Bronx. The drugs they gave him (by needle), made the pain go away- at least for a while- and he equated the needle with relief from pain in his life. I cannot stand needles- just the needle piercing the skin makes my stomach turn. I think this stems from receiving the smallpox vacine when I was 5 and looking at the needle piercing my skin. It was a very vivid memory- me in my slip at the school nurse's office and the needle going in my arm and the pain. I equate a needle with pain, while my brother equates it with pleasure.

I found out after Googling, that drug addiction is very complicated and my "ideas" about it were very simplistic, but I still do not throw out my "idea" of something "lacking"- some void that needs to be fiiled- in a person's life as one reason for addiction in a person.

Here are some websites, if anyone is interested, that I found to help me understand addictions.

How Does a Person Become Addicted

While one person dabbles in drugs with few ill-effects, another will become a chronic addict. What's the difference?

http://aeon.co/magazine/being-human/hanna-pickard-drug-addiction/

Going back to Mr. Hoffman- maybe he needed more in his life that wasn't being fulfilled? Maybe he needed to fill some void? Maybe he just liked the feeling that drugs gave him and he couldn't find that feeling in anything else he was doing? Maybe he didn't believe in his Oscar?

Maybe I should just shut-up. :scared: :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh:

"You’re all about the nightlife and getting groovy. You’re a social butterfly and are always out with friends. You love disco and soul music and can’t imagine a world without Saturday Night Fever."

This is SO untrue - I HATE nightlife, discos and that music!!! Totally wrong for me! Wonder "what" I answered to put me in the 70's...

just dropping in to say hey,ive missed you all :seeya:

not long to go til march

Addiction is horrible and controls your life. I have dealt with this with a family member for over 12 years. I think that is why people are in/out of rehab. Most rehab places are so expensive that the average person cannot afford it. The drugs take over their life and the rest of the people in the addicts life is left dealing with the path of destruction. It is absolutely horrible.
The flu sucks.
