Suspected Marine Rapist A Decorated Veteran
WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- The 21-year-old marine charged with the armed robbery and attempted assault of an Arlington woman on February 10th, is a decorated three year veteran. He was working as an administrative clerk at the Pentagon when he was arrested at Henderson Hall barracks late Saturday night.
According to the Pentagon, Marine Corporal Jorge Torrez of Chicago has several awards, including a good conduct medal, a War on Terrorism Service medal, a National Defense Service medal and a Naval Unit commendation.
Arlington County Police say Torrez matched the victim's description of the assailant and the composite drawing made by the police sketch artist.
A statement from Marine Corps Headquarters at the Pentagon says they take the allegations against Torrez "seriously...they are inconsistent with corps values of honor, courage and commitment."
Naval investigators are trying to see if Torrez was involved in similar crimes that may have occurred at locations where he was previously stationed. Those postings include Camp Pendleton in California, Camp Lejeune in NC, Japan and the Philippines.
Arlington County Police say Torrez is also a suspect in the armed abduction of two other Arlington women. In this case, the young victims were tied up in their Balston home. The suspect then abducted one of the women. He beat and raped her before dropping her off in a desolate stretch of Minnieville Road in Prince William County. Torrez is expected to be arraigned on April 19th.
