Thoughts on Daylight Saving Time...

Can't we just keep DST?

Stop the twice a year time change. I don't like it. My body doesn't like it. Messes with me for a couple weeks

Ha ha, I actually have some I didn't change from Spring!

Standard time is only 4 months now, so I don't even bother 'falling back' on my car clock (2003 Subaru Outback) in November. Come March, the clock will be right again, lol.

YES. The older I get the harder that switch is every spring. Fall doesn't bother me so much, but "spring forward" is rough. Not to mention the cat's mealtime confusion, haha.

We have an awesome wall clock in the den that takes both of us to change the time and battery. The clock weighs 17.5# and needs to be taken down to change the time, and we also change the battery every six months whether it needs it or not. Twice a year is enough to go through this major production. The clock is mounted on the wall above our flat screen TV on top of a glass door cabinet with cable box, DVD player, and our video/DVD collection. Cabinet must be moved away from wall so DH can get on a step ladder to take the clock down. I wipe it off, and DH replaces battery and changes time. Then, DH back on the step ladder, I hand him the clock, and he gingerly hangs the clock while I watch to make sure that it is going on the hook. Cabinet gets moved back into place. Done - until fall.

I really don't care one way or the other either. I personally prefer Standard, but I feel whatever it is it should remain year round.

I just wish it would be consistent, and not springing forward in the spring, and then falling an hour back in the fall.

Imo, it really isn't healthy biologically for humans to flip back, and forth.

Jmho

I prefer they keep the same time all year round: the change in time isn't really good for our body clocks:

They recommend you also check and/or replace your batteries in your fire alarm sensor at this time too.

Good point. Ours don't have batteries, so we don't have to worry about them :)

It's that time again. Time to set your clocks back one hour. Watches, light timers, kitchen appliances, cars, etc. Enjoy the extra hour of sleep :)

I agree, my circadian clock has been shot for some time now.

I am one of the few who HATES Daylight Savings Time. Give me Real Time all year long, please. We're not changing time by changing clock settings, we're all just going along with a big lie for others' convenience. My opinion as a naturally born and lifelong nightowl.

Daylight Saving Time ends: The mental impact of the time change (clickondetroit.com)

Transition from DST can exacerbate seasonal affective disorder symptoms

It’s time to “fall back” this weekend, as we mark the end of Daylight Saving Time.

And while many are looking forward to that extra hour of sleep Saturday night, the transition can be difficult for some. Experts say that understanding the psychology behind the time change and how it impacts us can make it easier to adjust.

Turning the clocks back an hour can increase the risk of seasonal affective disorder, also known as “SAD.”...

Senate unanimously passes bill to make daylight saving time permanent.

The U.S. Senate on Tuesday voted unanimously in favor of the Sunshine Protection Act, which would make daylight saving time permanent – meaning Americans would no longer have to change their clocks twice a year to account for the time change.

  • The bill, which must first clear the House of Representatives before it can be signed into law, would make the current time zone permanent
:):) It wouldn't start until Nov 2023 but I sure hope it passes the House!

I don't care what time they make it, just stop the changes. It's dumb.

Prior to the time change last weekend, I read reports that indicated more than 80% of US population did not like the twice yearly time change. There was no consensus on which time people preferred - daylight or standard - just that most preferred not to change times twice annually. My sentiments, exactly. JMO

This year, I consciously went to bed earlier and got up earlier for about 2 weeks prior to DLS. Much easier transition this year for me.

Yeah, okay, say time is whatever you want it to be, backward, forward, this, that. Let's change, add or subtract days of the weeks and months of the year while we're at it. I'm sure that would be more convenient for some as well. I guess reality is just the general consensus <sigh>.

I'm in favor of more daylight and less early dark nights. It drives me crazy every year. Moo.
