Taylor lived in the trailer and ran power from the house to his home, said the owner of the 19-acre plot, Margaret Turner, who is the grandmother of Taylor’s teenage son.

Turner said she began fielding calls “from half of Nelson County” after investigators descended on her property early last week.

“I didn’t know what was going on until the FBI came to see me,” she said. “I don’t know what to think or what to do.”

The house sat vacant for years after she moved to Roseland to live with her daughter and Taylor’s son, Turner said. The couple broke up when their son was a toddler and he lived with Taylor for years before moving in with his mother, she said.

The pair are on good terms and share time with their son, who was with Taylor all day the Monday after Murphy went missing, Turner said.

“What in the world is happening, I don’t know,” she said. “[His son] is crazy about his dad and his daddy loves him, I know that.”

Ten months after he told the Hook he was the victim of an overzealous investigation into missing Orange County teen Samantha Clarke, Randy Allen Taylor seems to be planning a similar defense in the disappearance of 17-year-old Nelson County resident Alexis Murphy. But while authorities on the case are keeping mum, the former lead investigator in the Morgan Harrington case isn't buying the story.

"I don't believe in coincidences," says retired Virginia State Police Lt. Joe Rader, who was the public face of the Harrington investigation...

Trina Murphy reportedly called Taylor's description of the drug dealer "stereotypical." "Of course it would be a black man with cornrows and 22s. Come on," she told the paper.
Trina Murphy says she doesn't think Alexis ever talked to Taylor, although it's possible the two interacted in the small town of Lovingston.

"Shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday, members of the Lake Monticello Water Rescue Team pulled their kayaks and raft ashore beneath the bridge at Drumheller Lane in Shipman. They had just finished a 10-mile trek down the river.
Several members of the crew trudged along the riverbed, when one asked for a pair of goggles and then took a closer look in the water. He surfaced to shout, “It’s a red sweater. Wasn’t she last seen wearing a red sweater?”
