Endangered child alert issued for 5-year-old Tennessee boy with autism Wednesday

DICKSON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) needs your help after issuing an endangered child alert for a 5-year-old missing from Dickson, Tennessee Wednesday morning.

The TBI says Joe Clyde Daniels is non-verbal, and has autism. He is four feet tall, weighs 65 pounds, and has blonde hair and blue eyes.

He was last seen at his residence on Garners Creek Road in Dickson Tuesday night, wearing pajamas.

First witness was Joel Wade with TBI. He’s part of the technical services unit and provided some cell phone data. We are already onto Zack Berkhart with the TBI who got involved with the investigation in June/July of 2019.

Burkhart says he walked to the area Jenny Jones recalls seeing Joseph the night Joe Clyde went missing. He says it took him 15 minutes. Burkhart has sat at the State’s table this entire time. The judge allowed that. So, he has seen all the witnesses and can attest to them.

We are now seeing an email thread Joseph had with DaVita Kidney Care around 4/3/2018. He was attempting to land a job with them, but there was some difficulty verifying parts of his background check.

We are now rewatching the dash cam video from the morning of 4/4/2018 when police pull up to the Daniels residence. 7:36AM - Daniels drives away and we see him drive past Bethany Retreat 3 miles later. 9:13AM he called Nashville State CC. 9:19AM returns home.

We have now rewatched video of Joseph Daniels leaving his home on 4/5 around 2:15AM. We see video of him inside Love’s at 2:44AM and AGAIN at 3:04AM for 8 min. Between that time Lavone Robins testifies she saw him driving slow on Harris Rd. He returns home at 3:28AM.

Burkhart is now comparing photos inside the home on 4/4 and 4/7. 3 days later you can see the living room is cleaned up, no toys scattered.

There are 20,000 pages of direct messages Richards and Krystal exchanged. We are looking at a few. These messages say she hasn’t been happy for the last 3 years and wants a divorce. The Daniels family is very intrigued by this. Big Joe moved to a new spot to read these.

Crouch presents what Jospeh Daniels searched on 3/30/2018. He searched anonymous parental tests, how he can get a paternity test without knowing, and flights/rental cars to Wichita, KS. Wichita is where Thomas Richards lives.

Defense argues a few things here. One is that Richards may not have sent those messages. He could have been hacked. The judge has ruled the FB messages and timeline of Joseph Daniels search history as admissible. We are taking a recess before jury returns.

We are back. The judge is telling the jury there will be offensive language of a sexual nature with what they are about to see (FB messages between Krystal and Thomas Richards).

The state presents a letter to Joseph Daniels. It’s from Logical LLC and verifies Daniels resigned due to the demand of the job on 2/27/2018. The letter was found in Daniels car. His resume also shows he was a computer science major.

We reviewed the FB messages and the timeline of Daniels Google searches with the jury. The defense argues there is no evidence Daniels read these messages. But the witness responds Krystal sent this messages off Alex’s tablet. It’s possible.

There is now lengthy back and forth between Defense Attorney Jake Lockert and Agent Burkhart. Lockert is trying to prove that law enforcement didn’t check everything - certain locations, neighbors, and a pair of boots taken off a nearby porch.
