TN - Memphis - Man Randomly Shooting & Posting Videos on Facebook, 3 dead - 9 Sept 2022 *arrest*

I wonder if the TN Reentry-Success Act (passed in 2021) played a part in early release?? Evidently, early release is a right not a privilege.

Historically, the board — and state law — held “parole is a privilege, not a right” as a watchword. That changed under the new law. Gov. Lee backed a new law changing early release from prison. A new lawsuit says Tennessee's parole board is resisting

'Just wondering as early release was mentioned by Memphis mayor regarding this case.

Or, maybe it was the parole board that failed??

"This is no way for us to live and it is not acceptable," said Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland, who later pounded the podium as he demanded accountability. "If Mr. Kelly served his full three-year sentence, he would still be in prison today and four of our fellow citizens would still be alive," he said.

If this information is factual, this started long before we knew it.
From the link
"A police affidavit confirmed the first victim who was shot just before 1 a.m."
It goes on to say that five other people were present at that scene but were not injured. Did he target that one person for a reason?

The timeline starts again around 6PM
From the link
" man shot about 6 p.m. at the AutoZone store"

This indicates a 17 hour timeframe between his first act and his second act. What was he doing during that 17 hours and why did he start his crimes again?

RSBM Great question.

Another timeline but nothing for the hours between first killing and next shooting.

Could that have triggered the issuance of the arrest warrant yesterday? I’m still very confused about that. Posted in the beginning of this thread was a screenshot of the warrant information and the offense date was 9/7/2022.

This will in no way help with the trauma of viewing that, but it may provide you some small comfort that the person you saw shot (inside Autozone) was reported to have survived his injuries.

ETA source:
Wow. I have not looked at this until now. (Queen). Glad he survived but FOUR DEAD. Omg. Now I’m hearing there maybe an active shooter in Memphis. Wtf

Was false alarm.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police confirmed Thursday there was no victim and no shooter at the IRS building Memphis, not far from the Mississippi state border, that caused a heavy police response.

Memphis Police Director Cerelyn "CJ" Davis said four people were killed and three others were wounded in seven shootings and at least two carjackings before Ezekiel Kelly was arrested without incident at around 9 p.m.

The first killing was at 12:56 a.m. Wednesday, and officers responded to three more crime scenes before receiving a tip at 6:12 p.m. that the suspect was livestreaming himself threatening to cause harm to citizens, Davis said.

In another [video clip], a man narrates himself driving — "green light, green light" — and sings "no faking." At one point, he fires two rapid bursts of gunfire out the driver's window while driving. Referring to police, he says he's going to "go down to the valley, shoot it out with them in the valley."

In February 2020, Kelly, then 17, was charged as an adult with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, using a firearm to commit a dangerous felony and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, court records show.

Records show he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced in April 2021 to three years. Kelly was released from prison in March, 11 months after he was sentenced, the mayor said.

Loves the attention. Just stay in jail for the rest of his life and he will be the happiest man on the planet. At 19 that's a long way to go. Afterall jail is such a great environment. Down the road that smile won't be there. That smile is just temoprary and for show. right now. Who knows he may come across a victim's relative or loved one who doesn't like that smile.

I also wonder if the light sentence was because the person Kelly tried to kill fell into the "no big loss" category, the way some authorities feel about the homeless, sex workers, etc.?

Is this person deranged? And, I never thought about Mephis before this week- is there some kind of spell of insanity plaging the city? Cannot imagine working or living there this week and the police must all be stressed to the max.

The worst part of the Dewayne Tunstall murder is that he had been in the news a year or two ago for buying gas for a lady at a gas station. And he had invited Kelly to the BBQ. From all indications, he was the exact opposite of his killer and is a real loss to society.

Ezekiel Kelley, 19, has charges from 2020 including criminal attempt of first degree murder, aggravated assault, employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony and reckless endangerment.

According to the Tennessee Department of Correction, Kelly spent three years in prison and was released March 16, 2022.

Man responsible for multiple shootings across city and recording it
It's always bothered me that the penalty for 'attempted murder' is so lenient. Look at all his previous charges:
criminal attempt of first degree murder, aggravated assault, employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony and reckless endangerment.

And he only gets 3 years? And only serves 11 months?

Criminal attempt of first degree murder? Shouldn't that require a lengthy sentence in itself? If one shoots at someone in an attempt to murder them, but they don't die, WHY is that an automatically lenient sentence?

If we gave longer sentences to those who attempt to murder others, we may save some innocent future victims. Why was this violent idiot given the chance to pull off this nightmare 3 years later?

Because our so-called justice system is a hot mess
