2 of the 4 KPD officers involved in deadly Austin-East High School shooting return to duty | wbir.com

"The Knoxville Police Department said two officers involved in the deadly April 12 shooting of a student at Austin-East High School have returned to duty.

According to KPD, Officer Brian Baldwin and Lt. Stanley Cash are back on duty more than a month after being placed on administrative leave following the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Anthony Thompson Jr. KPD said the two will return to similar duties.

The officer who shot the teen, Officer Jonathon Clabough, and the SRO who was wounded by Clabough during the incident, Officer Brian Wilson, have not been cleared to return to duty yet, according to KPD. Wilson's attorney said he is still trying to recover from his wounds, and KPD said they can't say whether he'd be back if he weren't wounded.

KPD said it is still conducting an internal review into the shooting. If there's no egregious or obvious policy violations, it's not uncommon for officers to be brought back to work while an internal review is underway."

Knoxville man agrees to plead guilty to buying pistol carried by A-E student during fatal confrontation | wbir.com

"A Knoxville man has agreed to plead guilty in federal court to lying in order to buy a handgun for an Austin-East High School student who ended up dead in a 2021 bathroom confrontation with police.

Kelvon Foster, 22, signed plea agreement papers Dec. 9 with federal prosecutors in Knoxville. He's due in U.S. District Court in Knoxville on Feb. 4.

Foster bought a 9mm pistol at the request of Anthony Thompson Jr., 17, on April 5 at Harvey's Pistol and Pawn on Clinton Plaza Drive. Security video showed Foster and Thompson in the store together.

Thompson directed Foster to the gun he wanted, authorities allege. Foster filled out paperwork at the store attesting that he was buying the gun for his own use. That was a lie, court papers state.

Later the same day, Foster handed off the Glock pistol to the teen in a parking lot off Broadway in exchange for cash and marijuana, according to state court records."
