TN - Woman shoots homeless man who asked her to move Porsche SUV

Her father's story is ridiculous. She got out of her car with a gun to protect her friend, fired shots but was unaware she hit him?LOL,I don't buy it.

If she wanted to protect her friend, she could have just driven away... Incredible. Hope there's CCTV or it's his word against hers.

Yeah, and of course Dad conveniently mentions the man threatened to kill her after a petty dispute.

I'm curious to see how this unfolds but I definitely don't find her account all that believable.

The shooters father claimed that the victim was aggressive towards both women (implies they were together). Yet then claims the shooter got out of the car to escort the other woman to the car (implies they were not together). The shooter then claims she fired "warning shots", yet both warning shots hit the victim.

One article says the shooter saw Melton harassing other women in the area just prior to her encounter. If these women exist and can be identified, they can strengthen her claim of self defense.

At the end of the day, I think many jurisdictions, even pro self defense ones, are tired of these types of shootings after minor confrontations. I can see why they are going for attempted murder.

I'm not sure what her night consisted of, so whether or not she truly noticed him harassing others...I don't know.

Her actions aren't exactly helpful for her defense.

She supposedly noticed him harassing people earlier that night, yet did nothing about it. She admittedly fired warning shots, with her eyes closed no less, which is definitely illegal; not to mention reckless. She then goes and grabs something to eat with her friend and reportedly failed to ever report this to the police.

Even in legitimate self defense you don't shoot someone and just go about your day as if nothing happened. That makes her, among other things, look incredibly irresponsible and even perhaps a bit callous.

Despite what her lawyer Dad says, I definitely don't think there was any real sense of danger here. More or less an exchange of words that escalated into her shooting without any justification.

what a crock.... if the guy was bugging them they could have simply driven away. just another case of the presence of a gun escalating things.

Looks like she is now charged with attempted murder for the August 26th incident. The 53 year old man remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Edit: First link appears to be dead; here's another http://www.tennessean.com/story/new...rrest-record-shooting-homeless-man/658698001/

Did I read that right...she was arrested for hitting her own mother?

I think this is a very good description of what happened.

Surely an "Affluenza" defense will not work on a 26-year-old woman, right?

I've read enough about Daddy's little darling to know she's been serious trouble for a very long time and should have been locked up years ago.

Apparently her ex boyfriend spoke out and it wasn't flattering; she apparently has a $2.5 million dollar trust fund and a bit of a superiority complex.

It's sad, but she'll likely buy her way out of jail with this.
