I was at Walmart this morning shopping, checking out where I could hide if a shooter came through.

There is definitely a problem in America, when "Defensive Shopping" is the new way of thinking.

I'm in retail, but I visit a lot of stores. We've received instructions for making sure we know where all exits are, store awareness, etc. :(

When companies give employees weapons of any sort, they become liable if the weapons are misused. Needless to say, the US legal system permits fast and furious law suits.

At the end of the day, fear of lawsuits has prompted many companies whose employees have direct contact with the public to either drop armed guards all together, or greatly reduce them in the case of casinos to just count room / cash moving occasions.

Just one day after the funeral of Walmart shooting victim Margie Reckard, her widower is reportedly facing another hardship.

Antonio Basco, who went viral this week for inviting the world to attend his wife’s services, allegedly had his SUV stolen and wrecked in South-Central El Paso on Saturday night.

According to Eduardo Moreno of El Paso Towing, the damaged vehicle was recovered on Sunday near the intersection of Gateway East and Grama Street just before the spaghetti bowl.

Wow. He can’t seem to catch a break. I hope the G F M account can cover another vehicle if he didn’t have full coverage insurance on the stolen one.

Two teachers in El Paso, Texas, who put out a call for people to send postcards to their students after a mass shooting at a local Walmart, have been inundated with more than 1,000 cards and counting. “It has been a very humbling experience to receive such an outpouring of love and kindness from everyone,” Teresa Garrett, a fourth-grade teacher at Tom Lea Elementary School, told ABC News’ Good Morning America. “We’re just so blessed and overwhelmed and happy with the response,” said Elvira Flores, a fourth-grade teacher at Hillside Elementary School. “The students’ reactions are priceless.”

The outpouring of support for him was so heartwarming and showed that for every nutcase out there there are thousands of Americans who are good, decent people and even kind strangers will support you.

I did worry when he said things like he slept at his wife's memorial on occasion, etc. that some nut out there will be jealous or want to wreck something because of the outpouring of support he received.

What another evil person who would do such a thing to a grieving man.

I hope since they found the vehicle, they find video cam, other evidence, etc. and there is an arrest.

    Jmo.

The husband of one of the Walmart shooting victims allegedly had his SUV stolen and vandalized, but the El Paso Police Department says it has no record of it.

According to Eduardo Moreno of El Paso Towing, the damaged vehicle was recovered on Sunday near the intersection of Gateway East and Grama Street just before the spaghetti bowl.

However, as of Monday morning, the El Paso Police Department had not received a report from Basco for theft.

Police did say that if a report was made they would have investigated the crime.

Photos shared to KTSM show damage to the windshield, hood and roof.

Six minutes was all it took for El Paso’s First Responders to arrive at Walmart on Aug. 3 and start saving lives. Timing that according to the El Paso Fire Department was like nothing they had ever seen.

“It’s been difficult for a lot of our guys,” said firefighter Bobby Franco.

A judge is set to hear arguments about whether a man charged in a fatal shooting in a Walmart parking lot should be allowed bail.

The Sun Journal reports a judge at a Sept. 6 hearing is also expected to determine whether there's probable cause to charge 21-year-old Gage Dalphonse, of Auburn, with murder.

Over $5 million has been raised for victims of the Aug. 3 Walmart mass shooting, but the group managing the donations says a strict vetting process recommended by authorities will keep funds from being distributed until December.

She said 100% of the money raised by the two foundations will go directly to surviving victims and families of the deceased, but added there will be an online application process in the near future to allow for vetting of those claiming to be entitled to money in order to catch cases of fraud.

The Great Khalid Foundation has been a dream for the artist. It grew, in part, from his tradition of donating Christmas gifts to El Paso elementary schoolchildren. Already, the organization has rolled out a slew of initiatives that Wolfe says will benefit economically disadvantaged kids in the city. In May, the foundation gave three $10,000 scholarships to high school seniors pursuing performing arts; in August, it donated 500 backpacks filled with school supplies to middle-school students. On Sept. 13, the foundation will open its first official El Paso office, with plans to expand nationally.

DALLAS (AP) - A Texas couple who were injured in a mass shooting at a Walmart store in El Paso last month recently filed a lawsuit against the corporation alleging it did not have adequate security in place to prevent the attack that killed 22 people.

Wal-Mart traditionally doesn't settle many lawsuits and those that they do, they do so for pretty small amounts. This is a case they probably will have to defend all the way. There is potential for a pretty bad precedent to be set here. If Wal-mart has to provide security against this, how far does that security go? Metal detectors? Armed guards at the door? Does your mom and pop shop down the street have to as well? I'm certainly not a big fan of Wal-mart, but this wasn't the company's fault.

Police dispute El Pasoan's story of heroism during Walmart shooting

According to an earlier article in the Dallas Morning News, Chris Grant's family says he was shot after he started throwing things at the shooter in an attempt to distract the shooter. Grant was one of the individuals that was going to be honored at the White House, but he had an outstanding criminal warrant and was detained by the Secret Service. And now, the local police say he wasn't trying to save others / distract the shooter (he was shot, but it's unclear if he did throw things at the shooter or not).
