The trial of Orville Clay Russell, 70, for the murder of his estranged wife, Angela Deanne Russell of Splendora, was concluded Friday, Sept. 11, in the 253rd District Court of Liberty County, Texas, with a jury verdict of guilty and a sentence of 75 years.
The jury found Russell guilty of shooting and killing the 45-year-old victim on Dec. 19, 2014, despite prosecutors being unable to introduce important evidence at trial.
The defense asked that they find the shooting to have been a sudden crime of passion and limit his sentence to the minimum of 25 years.
The jury did not find the shooting to have been a crime of passion and gave the 70-year-old defendant a 75-year sentence.
