Four other men & women were excused from serving on the jury. Of the five people who could still be selected were: two attorneys; two men who work in oil and gas; and a woman who is in the process of trying to open a cat café. There are 13 men & women left to question from Monday's initial big group panel. Next week, another round of potential jurors will be asked to report to the 178th District Court & the process will start again. The final jury selection is set for 5/31/23. HOUSTON – One potential juror for the Antonio “AJ” Armstrong Jr. re-trial was dismissed because they said they could not give Armstrong the presumption of innocence.

Prosecutors said Armstrong shot his parents in July 2016. The shooting occurred at the family’s home in the 5300 block of Palmetto Street in southwest Houston.

During the two previous trials, jurors couldn’t reach a unanimous decision, causing the judge to declare mistrials.

Nine prospective jurors were questioned by prosecutors and defense attorneys Thursday, May 4, 2023.
[.....]
74 people were brought in on Monday, May 1, of them 39 were dismissed. This week, 35 of the potential jurors sit for questions. As of Thursday, 14 people are moving forward to May 31st when the jurors who will determine the outcome of the case are chosen.

I have not seen anywhere how many potential jurors they want to end up with on 5/31.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- By the end of week one of jury selection for the A.J. Armstrong capital murder trial, 17 men and women were selected as potential jurors from Monday's initial group of 74 people.

On Friday, prosecutors and Armstrong's defense team questioned eight people. Of those eight, three women and two men were dismissed.

The three women chosen to return on May 31 for final jury selection are a former newspaper reporter who works in IT for a consulting company, a Space Center Houston employee, and a mother with an adult son who described herself as "not easily influenced by other people."
[.....]
Next Monday, the final five potential jurors from this first panel will be questioned. On Tuesday, a second large panel will report to the criminal courthouse, and the process starts over.

Houston – On Tuesday, 65 new potential jurors in a group setting got questioned in the case against Antonio Armstrong Jr.
[.....]
When the group questioning was over, four prosecutors and four defense attorneys met with Judge Johnson to determine who will move forward to the final selection where they will conduct individual voir dire.

Judge Johnson is whittling down large groups of potential jurors to ensure the final selection can be impartial and only make a decision based on what is presented in court.

This means 27 jurors will return to court through the end of May when the jury panel is seated.

5/2/23 Update: Armstrong's attorneys have asked Harris County's 178th District Court to pay $5,000 towards the private investigator working his capital murder case because Armstrong "cannot afford to hire" one, according to a motion filed on Tuesday. "The defendant is "indigent," the motion states. There was no information attached to show this claim. Judge Kelli Johnson responded to the motion by agreeing the court will pay half the fees & expenses requested, at $2,500.

It was a busy Wednesday as attorneys in the Antonio Armstrong Jr. case continue to find an unbiased jury.

One of the big topics potential jurors were questioned on revolves around their beliefs about the Houston Police Department.
[.....]
By the end of the day, four of the 10 jurors will come back to court for the final part of voir dire.
[.....]
The four jurors selected today will join 20 other jurors on May 31. That is the day the attorneys and the court will discuss the final strikes of jurors before heading into trial on June 5.

Now I am confused... I have 47 potential jurors for 5/31. The first group of 74 had 20 that were selected. Then on 5/9/23 there were 27 of the 65 group to be selected. How does the article only come up with 20... ??

Anyone want to correct me?? :)

HOUSTON – Eight more potential jurors took on individual voir dire questioning in the Antonio Armstrong Jr. third trial.

By the end of the day, five of the eight jurors were asked to come on May 31.

That brings the total amount of jurors coming back to 29.

The second jury panel is expected to wrap up on Monday.

A third jury panel of 65 potential jurors will be called upon for voir dire Tuesday.

Well - I guess I will change my notes on potential jurors & go with this reporter...

Okay - maybe I am dense or something - but this does not make sense to me...

Since jury selection started, 139 men and women have been summoned. Out of the 139, 53 people moved on to be questioned individually. So far, 29 of the 53 people remain potential jurors.

So 29 people are FOR SURE to come back on 5/31, correct? And the 24 in the people of 53 are still to be questioned - is that correct?

Thanks for helping me understand this! LOL! :)
