A new article on this case. A group of retired officers are volunteering time to try and solve this. Amazing to read in the article that the depression in the ground where Mr X was buried was still clearly visible 40 years on...

Body of “Mr. X” exhumed from Cleburne cemetery after 40 years

CLEBURNE — The remains of a man found slain more than 40 years ago were exhumed Thursday morning in hopes that investigators can finally learn his name and the identity of his killer.

Referred to by Johnson County Cold Case Squad members as simply “Mr. X,” the victim had been found by a rancher on Dec. 11, 1972, dumped in a field off Road 1131A, about 14 miles northwest of Cleburne.

The body was nude and decomposing near a cedar thicket. An autopsy later determined he’d been shot three times with a .25 caliber handgun in the chest and right arm.

The case was reopened by Johnson County’s Cold Case Squad this spring, a group of retired law enforcement officers who volunteer their time investigating the unsolved slayings

The chin area seems huge.

I'm guessing that the "sketch" is based off of a postmortem picture. The mouth was probably open and the artist probably just blurred out the gaping hole below the top set of teeth and didn't adjust the space left over.

He is now a DDP “pending case”:

“Bone extraction done. Awaiting quant.”

Mr. X is now at the lab for further extraction--sounds like the first time was not successful, unfortunately.

Kind of a side note, but I hope they can get Kim Parkhurst to do a recon. He certainly deserves a presentable one!

Yeah....I hate to say it, but I am definitely not a fan of the one he has now. It scares me.

Yeah, the current reconstruction could definitely be better. I can handle reconstructions that are derived from postmortem photos (they are probably some of the best and most accurate), but not when the decedent was unrecognizable upon discovery.

I am very appreciative, though, that someone took the time to give him a reconstruction because lots of UIDs, unfortunately, don't have reconstructions at all.

Current DNA Doe Project Status is "Extraction done. Awaiting shipment to sequencing lab."

Could just mean that LE doesn't update Namus, or they have that page set so the general public can't see it.
I’m thinking that has to be it! I hope someday we get to call him by his name... but as long as his name is returned to him, that’s good too!
