Three abandoned children found with skeletal remains of young boy in Texas

The discovery was made at an apartment complex west of downtown Houston on Sunday, and has been described as “heartbreaking” by police who added the children had been living in “deplorable” conditions.

Authorities said the youngsters were aged seven, 10 and 15. According to reports, the eldest child said the boy, thought to be nine-years-old, had been dead for a year and was in the next room.

What the heck? How is this even possible I wonder.....Didn't neighbors hear or see something or noticed an obnoxious smell. How long were they abandoned yet? "parents didn't live there for several months" djeez.....how were they supposed to get food and other necessary things?......This poor kids. What is wrong with the mother and the boyfriend...OMG

Looks like City Parc II at Westgate.
Miller Intermediate School is right there.
Did none of these children go to school?
I’m guessing someone was paying the rent....wonder why the property manager or maintenance had not noticed anything!
Those poor children :(

Mother located after skeletal remains, three children found in Harris County apartment

“The complex, CityParc II at West Oaks Apartments, is less than a mile from Miller Intermediate School and Albright Middle School. It’s unclear if any of the children were enrolled in school.”

“Dianne Davis has lived at the complex for two years and said the building manager regularly performs mandatory inspections on all apartments to check windows, plumbing and smoke detectors. The most recent inspections occurred last week.

“How come they couldn’t detect this?” Davis said. “How could that not have been found?”

Dear Lord...skeletal remains of the little boy, dead for quite some time! How in the world?!

This is unbelievable. At least the three living children will be safe now. The mother needs to be removed from society for an awful long time. Maybe the 'boyfriend' too. Is he the father? How did the boy die?? So much to investigate.

She is probably a severe addict....<modsnip>....That's the only reason I can think off by now.....Could she even be not the biological mother, but because a family member died she "had" to take care of them but wasn't able to...just thinking out loud....

The apartment complex (link at end) seems to have income requirements for most of the tenants. If a program like Section 8 paid for the entire rent*, would rent be auto-paid by the government? Would utilities be paid by the assistance program? This assumes, of course, that the parents were enrolled in programs that fully covered these expenses - I don’t have any info as to whether they were getting any assistance, let alone whether that assistance was full or partial.

If the parents did not provide food or food $, some low-income complexes have an on-site food pantry. There may have been area pantries gave freely and didn’t require things like proof of residency, especially during covid. School lunches are free during covid, and some schools in low-income areas try to send students home on weekends with food.

Which brings up school! ** If the children were on-time, well-groomed, and neatly clothed, well, that would be amazing! Toilet paper, laundry soap, and hygiene items are hard to get at food pantries.

And, of course, the messy process of living being to skeleton…neighbors didn’t complain?

* Eviction moratorium, too.
** That’s assuming in-person school. Kids may have been remote or simply truant.
