Driving through Texas was supposed to be a quick trip for Timothy McKye in 2006.
McKye, who would now be 66, had been living in Arizona. He was traveling through Texas on his way to his family in Florida but never made it.

McKye’s family said they were told his U-Haul trailer was found in a ditch in Beaumont and he was last seen in that area on Oct. 13, 2006.

The family said it's concerning because McKye is a veteran and since that day, there has been no sign of him, his car or his dog.

“If he wanted to disappear then he had the means, I’m sure. But if there’s foul play, then we’d also like to know," Tim's nephew, Christopher McKye, said. “I know he was living in Glendale, Arizona and he was moving to Florida with my grandmother."

Tim's family in Houston is hoping a new nonprofit that's dedicated to helping families can shed new light on the case.

Here is Timothy’s NamUs link. He has 4 exclusions:

"Need to search water sources" [courses] "with Timothy's vehicle
missing as well his dog and him of course."
If the family manages to state a GPS where the U-Haul was left,
that would narrow the possibe water locations considerably.
Seems like this particular case would be the type of case that
a group like Adventures with Purpose could solve.
You have to figure that after the U-Haul trailer got stuck, that
Timothy McKye drove at the limit or faster towards the nearest
town large enough to have a tow truck service, to lessen the
time that the loaded U-Haul sat as an unattended target for
any thief that chanced upon it. (What advice, if any, was given
by the apartment security guard who came upon him and the
trailer?).
Timothy McKye was moving to live in another State, so his
1999 Plymouth Voyager (van) may have been packed with
his belongings, that van has provision for a roof rack
arrangement also (so vehicle maybe laden top heavy?).
At speed, not too hard to believe the vehicle lost control
and spun out and up over a barrier into some river/bayou.

“Right now, it’s too premature to even venture a guess," retired FBI Special Agent Abel Pena said about the case.

Pena started the nonprofit last year to bridge the gap between families and law enforcement. It's called Project Absentis.

[...]

Police in Glendale, Arizona told KHOU11 News that it’s still being investigated as an active missing person case and they are looking for anyone with information to come forward.

Project Absentis also has an anonymous tip line you can call at (726) 777-1359.

MISSING w/His DOG.. 2006 Cold Case Disappearance of Timothy McKye - YouTube

Summary:
An 'Adventures With Purpose' search about a month back
for Timothy McKye, whose 1999 Plymouth Voyager van
was not found.
Searching (in the Neches River), boat ramps about the
Neches River Salt Water Barrier, boat ramps about
Colliers Ferry Park & off the (now permanently barriered)
sideroad from Bigner Rd, & then searching off each boat
ramp located almost under each end of the Sabine Lake
Causeway Bridge (which carries Texas State Highway 82).

Unfortunately, as the U-Haul trailer stuck location is
unknown as noted in previous posts above, AWP came
at the search as if Timothy McKye had committed
suicide (hence the focus on boat ramps & sideroad
leading directly into the river).
