A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman who has not been seen since January.

Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin, 24, from Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside, was reported missing in early February.

A 59-year-old man was arrested and later bailed on Wednesday, Greater Manchester Police said.

Det Ch Insp Andrew Naismith said that following various inquiries detectives believed she had "come to serious harm".

He said: "The investigation is still ongoing and we are not in a position to confirm any further details at this stage.

"I would urge anyone with information, or anyone who may have seen Alisha or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to please contact police."

Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin: Murder arrest over missing woman

Why out on bail?!? Ludicrous

Not really. They obviously haven't got enough at this stage to charge and guarantee getting to court.

And this person may or may not be involved. We see endless people arrested in cases and then bailed and then case against them dropped completely.

#UPDATE | New photos released as part of the investigation into missing Alisha Apostoloff-Boyrin from Ashton-Under-Lyne.

The family of missing Ashton woman Alisha Apostoloff-Boyrin, have released new photos of her as the investigation into her disappearance continues two months after she was last seen in her home town.

The investigation has resulted in detectives from GMPs Major Incident Team following up on a number of lines of enquiry in different parts of the country, including here in Greater Manchester, County Durham and Derbyshire.

Unfortunately, evidence has lead detectives to believe that Alisha has come to serious harm and two arrests have been made.

It is believed that Alisha travelled from Ashton to County Durham and back in January.

Officers are urging people both in the Manchester and Durham areas to think if they could have seen Alisha since January, or anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage showing Alisha. She regularly wears a long Parka style jacket with a hood and may have been wearing this when she went missing.

Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin, aged 24, was reported missing on Wednesday 2 February 2022 by her Grandmother who had not heard from her and was concerned for her welfare.

On receiving the report an immediate missing persons investigation was launched. Following a number of lines of enquiry, this missing person search was elevated to a murder investigation.

A 59-year-old man who has ties to Ashton-Under-Lyne, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder in March 2022. He has since been bailed and remains under investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Liam Boden said: "Greater Manchester Police are continuing the search for Alisha and the investigation into her disappearance.

"We can confirm that Alisha travelled as a passenger in a vehicle to the #BishopAuckland area, County #Durham on Friday 14th January 2022.

"She was later seen travelling in the same vehicle on Saturday 22nd January 2022, leaving #Glossop towards Chapel-en-le-frith in #Derbyshire. Alisha has not been seen or heard from since.

"The vehicle she was a passenger in is described as a 2003 gold coloured Volkswagen Passat saloon.

“A year has passed now and still Alisha has not been seen by family, friends and loved ones and as the investigation continues it is believed that she may have come to serious harm.

“We need you - the public - to cast your minds back to Saturday 22 January 2022 and following days after, did you see anything suspicious? Did you see Alisha? Have you seen the vehicle in question? Do you know where that vehicle went? Did you witness any suspicious activity on nearby lanes or land?

“We are also appealing to the rural communities of Derbyshire in particular around Glossop, Buxton and Chapel-en-le-frith to come forward if you have seen anything suspicious or vehicles trespassing on private land around these dates.

“If you were around the Glossop, Chapel-en-le-frith or Buxton areas of Derbyshire, please contact police immediately, If you know anything, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, it may be the missing piece we need in our investigation to find Alisha.

“We are looking for CCTV, dashcam footage, images or any accounts of suspicious behaviour around that date as this will bring us one step closer to finding Alisha and help us understand what has happened to her.”

Would have been great if they'd put that specific info out *at the time* when memories were fresh.

People who know the truth about Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin's disappearance are being urged to 'search their conscience' after her 'closest' relative died without answers. The young woman, from Tameside, was reported missing to police by her grandmother on February 2 last year.

Alisha, aged 24 when she disappeared, had been living with her grandmother in Ashton-under-Lyne and police believe they had a strong bond. Greater Manchester Police escalated its missing person's investigation into a murder probe last March, and Alisha's family made a public plea for information so they could 'lay her to rest'.

But tragically, police say Alisha's grandmother died without ever finding out what had happened to her beloved granddaughter. DCI Andrew Naismith, senior investigating officer, believes it is 'one of the saddest things' about Alisha's case and is urging anyone with vital information to help deliver justice for the rest of the family.

Alisha's disappearance featured on BBC Crimewatch Live today. It's available to view on BBC iPlayer for the next seven days (link below, might not work outside the UK). CCTV footage is included. Interestingly, photos of her with a man, showing a car that she was seen in (the car has been recovered) have the man's face blurred. Maybe (JMO) this could have been one of the suspects previously arrested and released?
