GUILTY UK - Catherine Gowing, 37, Queensferry, Wales; 12 Oct 2012

So sad. I don't think I will ever be able to truly understand what drives people to murder.

I believe the pool of water in the map below is where they are referring to. It's just a 5 minute drive from Asda, Queensfarry.

Just heard this on the news now. So sad, RIP Catherine. Prayers for her family and friends.

I think it's beyond the comprehension of any civilised person how someone can do this to another human being. :furious:

An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of Flintshire-based vet Catherine Gowing.

John Gittins, acting coroner for north east Wales, said a cause of death had been deferred.

Ms Gowing, 37, from New Brighton, disappeared on 12 October and human remains discovered last week have been identified as those of the missing vet.

Clive Sharp, 46, from Bethesda, Gwynedd, has been charged with murder and has been remanded in custody.

Human remains were discovered last Wednesday in a shallow pool at Sealand, Flintshire, and have since been confirmed as belonging to Ms Gowing.

Police are also awaiting identification of further human remains found on the banks of the River Dee near Chester on Friday.

THE STEP-FATHER of Clive Sharp, who is accused of murdering Irish vet Catherine Gowing, has disowned him.

Fighting back tears, John Whyte also said he can't bring himself to think of the Gowing family and what they must be going through.

"It's too much, I can't go there. It makes me ill to think of her poor family and what they are feeling."

Mr Whyte, who lives near Mold in north Wales, close to where Catherine lived and worked, broke down as he told the Irish Independent that he will leave his Welsh home over the killing. His step-son Clive Sharp was charged with the crime over the weekend.

"I can't stay here. I think I'm going to have to leave my home and go abroad. I've lost everything now. What's there left to live for. I just want to die," he said.

Mr Whyte's wife Margaret, the mother of Mr Sharp, passed away from stomach cancer in May this year. The frail Welshman is also battling stomach cancer and revealed how the stress and worry as a result of the killing was affecting his health.

Mr Whyte revealed how neither he nor his wife had had much contact with Clive Sharp in recent years.

"He did his own thing. We never really saw or spoke to him. Even when we lost Margaret, there wasn't much contact," he said.

Fr Francis Doyle of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Buckley, North Wales, led a rosary for Catherine last week and will say a number of masses for the young woman this week.

He revealed how many of the congregation had known Catherine personally and were devastated by her disappearance.

Human remains found on the banks of the River Dee in Chester have been identified as those of missing vet Catherine Gowing, say police.

Ms Gowing, 37, from New Brighton, Flintshire, disappeared on 12 October.

The remains found at Higher Ferry on Friday are the second set positively identified as the missing vet, and officers say the search continues.

Clive Sharp, 46, from Bethesda, Gwynedd, has been charged with her murder.

The family of Ms Gowing, originally from Kinnity, near Birr, in County Offaly, has been informed.
Det Ch Insp Mark Pierce, senior investigating officer from North Wales Police, said: "The results have been passed to Catherine's family. As you can imagine this is a very difficult time for them.

"They continue to be supported by specialist officers and are being kept fully updated with the progress of the investigation.

Mr Pierce repeated his appeal for any information about any sightings of Ms Gowing's car with the Irish registration 00D 99970 and Clive Sharp's black Volvo S40 registration AG58 JHE since 12 October - particularly in the Sealand and River Dee areas.

He added: "The search for further remains and any evidence to assist this investigation continues and I would again ask the local community if you have seen any suspicious activity or person in Manor Road, Sealand or on the banks of the River Dee, or have any information which may assist our investigation to contact police on 101."

Search for Catherine Gowing remains continues in Flintshire
Nov 15 2012 Flintshire Chronicle

POLICE are still looking for Catherine Gowing’s remains – as the search continues into a second month.

Body parts belonging to the 37-year-old vet were found in Sealand on October 31 and Higher Ferry on November 2.

And North Wales Police said this week the search was continuing – but the force said it would not disclose specific sites.

John Gittins, acting coroner for North East Wales, has opened and adjourned an inquest, but could not give an initial cause of death.

Masses have been held by Father Francis Doyle at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Buckley, where some of Catherine’s friends are among the congregation.

THE MOTHER of slain Irish vet Catherine Gowing has praised the work of Welsh police investigating her death.

Ms Gowing (37), from Clareen, Co Offaly, disappeared on October 12 in Queensferry, Wales.

Catherine's mother, Maureen Gowing, said that the family were very pleased with the conduct of Welsh police – who have kept them updated during their investigation.

She said that they have been "wonderful" to the family.

"The police in Wales have been very helpful," she added.

North Wales man Clive Sharp (46), of no fixed address, has been charged with murder and remanded in custody until January 7 when he is due to enter a plea.

Ugh, what is it with dismembering people? How sad that they haven't recovered Catherine and I guess Sharp isn't talking. Have they identified a crime scene yet? An earlier report suggested he was living in the factory where he worked but I haven't heard that's been sealed off.

Detectives investigating the murder of vet Catherine Gowing say the search continues despite the discovery of some remains. Sgt Neil Parkes from North Wales Police said: "The search for Catherine Gowing is the largest search operation conducted by North Wales Police.

"The terrain has been extremely challenging involving large areas of woodland, disused quarries, water courses, cess pits and other open areas.
"We are also searching houses and vehicles with each receiving its own sequential search sector."
Officers have searched more than 30 individual areas and 15 separate water area, including ponds, lakes and the River Dee.

Ms Gowing was last seen at approximately 20:40 BST on Friday 12 October when she was filmed on CCTV leaving an Asda supermarket in Queensferry.

Former Deeside High School pupil Clive Sharp, from Gwynedd, has been charged with her murder and is currently in custody pending a hearing in January, when he will be asked to enter a plea.

Anyone with information is asked to call North Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
