A family member has said via the link above that Charley was drunk, and also dropped his phone (which has been recovered). Not wearing warm clothing for cold December nights, and alcohol will lower body temperature.

Where Charley was last seen, close to River Irwell. Being drunk and stumbling about, not sure where he was going, makes me fear the worst.

If someone you are out with and is sozzled, the right thing to do would be to get an uber/taxi home. However i think certain taxidrivers wont take some passengers if they are very drunk due to vomiting and other concerns. Really hope he is found safe but there is real concerns about Charley being the state he was in when last seen.

The parents of missing 20-year-old student Charley Gadd have issued an urgent plea from members of the public to help locate their son who has not been seen since the early hours of Saturday morning.

Charley’s father, Jolyon Gadd, said: “We were out with Charley on Friday night and Saturday morning on the 11 December and had a lovely time together.

“We were near the Spar Store in St Mary’s Gate at around 1.10am when Charley ran off. We spent many hours then and later in the early hours looking for him before reporting him missing to the police around 11am. Charley is not familiar with Manchester and may have got lost and not been able to find his way back to his hotel.

“Charley is a very bright, warm, funny and loving man who everybody hugely enjoys being around.

“He is in the second year of a film and media degree course at the University of Essex in Colchester where he is well liked and flat shares with friends. We have heard nothing from him since he ran off and my wife and I and his brothers Bruno and Rufus are desperate for any news of him. We are obviously extremely worried.

“As we do not live in the area, we would ask local people and businesses to help us by looking in outbuilding, vehicles, bins, and anywhere else that Charley may have taken shelter to keep warm on Saturday morning.

“We really appreciate all the support and kind comments given by local people on social media, and ask that you please keep this in the public eye locally until we find Charley. However, we would ask that our privacy also please be respected at this time.”

Enquiries are on-going and searches are being carried out but officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen Charley or has any information.

So from the above post Charley was out with his dad and not friends as had previously stated. Charley in his drunken state where he was stumbling was able to escape from his father at 1 am in the morning. I do find this an interesting term of developments.

Why was he trying to escape from his father? What's all that about?
Does his father live in Manchester?
Hmmmm....

The family of a student who has gone missing after a night out have said they are "extremely worried" about him.

Charley Gadd, 20, was last seen on CCTV outside the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester at about 01:15 GMT on Saturday after he ran away from his family, Greater Manchester Police said.

The University of Essex student had been to the Warehouse Project venue.

His parents have urged businesses and residents to search outbuildings and places where he may have found shelter.

Mr Gadd is described as a being of slight build, about 5ft 9in tall, and was wearing a red jacket and blue jeans.

His family told police they were "desperate" to hear from Charley, who lives in Colchester.

Hmmmm....

From what is in reports, family live in Suffolk. Charley at uni in Essex. Not sure why they were all in Manchester? Maybe one of the brothers based there? Father has said none of them familiar with Manc.

They had been at the WHP where The Chemical Brothers were playing a DJ set, plus other acts. Could one of the brothers have been involved with one of the acts, hence they're all being up there?

I hope he is safe.
These circumstances really are concerning. Poor Charley and his family.

The father hasn't come out and exactly explained the circumstances, in his plea for help, which gives me pause.

Perhaps there had been a family argument, or maybe one of the boys had taken something (drugs?) at the DJ concert and it all started falling apart?
It may explain why one of them was trying to 'escape' his father? Perhaps he was under the influence of something other than alcohol. Dance music events are known for MDMA use.

MOO.

Rather than it being an argument between him and his parents, it could just be that he ran off because he was wasted.

They left the club around 1 am by all accounts. Maybe Charley's parents wanted to go back to the hotel but Charley didn't.

They probably didn't want him roaming around the streets on his own, but he's 22 so they can't exactly force him to go with them.

Because he was wasted he could've just ran off, telling them he would be fine. Maybe he told them he was going to find his friends.

As we all know the brain doesn't always engage when we've had one too many.

Some think their invincible and don't realise the potential danger of being in a strange city alone and, at that time in the morning.

I didn't read anything sinister into his running off from his parents. He was drunk. People do stupid stuff when they're drunk.

Young drunk men and nearby water is always concerning. Especially since he wasn't familiar with the area.
